Building a CustoMac: Buyer's Guide November 2013

Hi there,

I'm getting ready to update my system from 10.7 and have been looking at these two boards from your recommended list: GA-Z87X-UD5H and GA-Z87X-UD3H. Can any explain to me what the main differences are between the two? Would I be sacrificing performance going with the UD3H vs. the UD5H? Also, is the UD4H not recommended?

I suggest using newegg's excellent comparison tool to help make a decision: http://tinyurl.com/k4xw3er

It really comes down to the following:

- dual NICs
- dual HDMI ports
- 10 SATA ports
- 2 IEEE 1394a headers

I personally just bought the GA-Z87X-UD5H. I think it's way worth an extra $50 for the above added features.

i wonder how you can say HD 4600 is FULLY supported in mac os x. it works fine with 1 monitor, yes. but with > 1 monitors there are so many bugs.

moreover i wonder why the GA-Z87N-WIFI is still in the buyers guide. is there anyone who has NO problems with ALC892 on mac os x? i don't think so.

i bought my system from the buyers guide and i regret this decision because of so many problems and no one can help in this forum. if i knew this before i would have prefered to spend 50% more on a real mac but now its too late...
 
I just bought a Samsung 840 EVO 250GB SSD before you post this Buyer's Guide! :D
I can only recommend it, blazing fast for it's price.
 
So,are the nvidia gtx xxx works OOB? cause a lot of ppl having issues after installing Mavericks
OpenCL issues, Power Management issues

(looking to buy a GTX 660 or GTX 760...asus or msi brand if that matters)

What is the comeback of getting a FTW model?

I can't decide if wether buy a GTX760 or a GTX760 FTW.

I heard Overclocked models, as the FTW versions, last shorter than the standard versions. Is that true?

I work with 3d and 2d animations. Dual Screen. Currently in school. I also do some heavy gaming.
 
I imagine the Gigabyte thin mini itx will work fine: haswell socket. audio and net seem ok
