Yes I used all the staff from manual.
You (ressetkk) mean IOBus kext from the manual download is broken? Coud you suggest how to fix it to my Senheiser headphones should work, or where to read how to do it.
Do You use the fixed one. Coud you attach?

Best regards

Hi Guys,

I've read all of this thread and have been trying to install Mac on my Y580. I wanted to share my experience as well as get your insight on the problems I am facing.

I've watched the YouTube videos and downloaded Kexts from the videos as well as the instructions on page 16 but some of my hardware just isn't working (I will list the hardware that is not working below).

I know some of you guys have similar problems like aportner's post #208 where his camera was not working. This post might help.

Here is my experience:

I used UniBeast to install Mac OS to an external HD.

I was :banghead: when I found out I could not install MAC OS to my internal drive.

Solution:
Anyone who does not want to format their drive and have to reinstall windows can do the following.

Requirements: USB HDD or an empty 8+ GB USB Flash Drive

Warning: Your recovery partition might not work after this. Create recovery disks for Windows beforehand.

Instructions:

Install Mac OS X on USB
Shrink your Windows partition and move your recovery partition so you can create a partition for MAC OS
I used Paragon Backup and Recovery free as it can also format partitions in +HFS
Boot the UniBeast USB again and use disk utility to restore the USB HD to Internal HD.
(You will need a boot loader to boot of the internal Mac drive. I currently just use the UniBeast USB to boot of the internal drive)

Once the OS was installed and after using Kext Utility to install kexts i found that a lot of hardware listed working were not working for me.

Until I found that I can put kexts in Extra/Extensions folder which made some stuff work but not others.

So now I have 2 test systems:

1st Test System: kext installed with Kext Utitliy:

Hardware:

  • USB ports: Works
  • Trackpad: Not working (Worked during installation but then stopped working for unknown reason)
  • Webcam: Not working
  • Ethernet: Works
  • Bluetooth: Works (I use Logitech mouse and when I installed Control Center bluetooth stopped had to reinstall using Kext Utility)
  • Sound: Works (VoodooHDA version 0.2.7.3 installed from MultiBeast made this work)

2nd Test System: kext copied into Extra/Extensions

Hardware:

  • USB ports: Works (Initially only one port worked. I put Rehabman's Generic USB3 kext in Extra/Extensions "GenericUSBXHCI.kext" and all ports started working)
  • Trackpad: Works
  • Webcam: Works
  • Ethernet: Works
  • Sound: Not Working (AppleHDA.kext is not working for me)
  • Bluetooth: Not Working (I would like this to work from Extra/Extensions and not have to use kext utility, if possible)

Graphics:

  • I created a DSDT using DSDTSE V2 and just Googled on how to get rid of errors.
  • I have a 1366x768 screen and none of the posted dsdt files were working.
  • The only patch applied is the graphics one "03a_HDMI.txt"

Bluetooth Tether:
Requirements: Android phone

While trying to find a solution to WIFI problem I came across a free app on android "OpenGarden". They have a Mac app. Download and install on both phone and mac. You have to restart the mac for the app to connect. :banghead: Spent an hour trying to figure out why it wasn't working. The bandwidth sucks but at least you have wireless internet.

Where I want your help:

DSDT: What else should I patch the dsdt.aml with. Can you post the txt files, or just their names so i can search for them on google.

Sound:
I would like the get the AppleHDA kext working like most of you guys. Here is my sound card description: VEN_10EC&Dev0269. Let me know if you need other descriptions that will help make this kext work for my hardware.

If that's not possible then for VoodooHDA I would like to get this working in Extra/Extensions. I read that VoodooHDA needs dependencies files like ioaudiofamily.kext. But it did not work.

Bluetooth: How can I get it working in Extra/Extensions. I would rather not have to install this with Kext Utility if i don't need to.

Thanks in advance.

Hello!

Just installed OS X following 10.8 installation guide and Jessers123 guide. All worked as expected. Thanks to all involved in development!

OS X works very well on Y580 (M772RGE version)

Hovewer I have 1 question:

I have triple boot: WIN 8, Linux and OS X

- OSX is installed in the small SSD (HD0) and WIN8 and LINUX are in the hard drive (HD1, formatted as MBR)
- Laptop boots HD1 first loading GRUB2, which can load WIN8 or Linux
- if I want to boot OS X, I press F12 at boot to load Chameleon, which loads OS X

The question is: how can I boot Chameleon from GRUB2 ? I tried to insert manually an entry to GRUB2 using this:

menuentry "OS X Bootloader" {
insmod hfsplus
set root='(hd0,2)'
multiboot /boot
}

but it won't work... I tried several different configurations, but it just won't work...

How can I boot Chameleon from GRUB2 or ideally how can OS X can be booted directly from GRUB2 ?

I'd like to hear any advice....

Thank you!

You can try to change Hard Drive Priority in BIOS.

I have the same post. I was able to get grub to detect all three operating system by entering the following command:

sudo grub-update [ENTER]
Then type your password and hit enter.

I am running Linux Mint. So this should work for Debian based system, (Debian, ubuntu, etc...) If you don't have one of those systems, make sure that you have OS-Prober installed and follow the commands according to the man pages for your distribution.

Hello.

GRUB2, actually detected OS X installation and added 2 entries (32 and 64 bits) at the very beginning, but if I try to boot the "OS X 64 bit" entry, the laptop just restarts and loads GRUB2 again, so it won't work for some reason. Thats why I want to add the entry manually to the GRUB.

Updating Chameleon or upgrading to Chimera and updating GRUB may solve the problem ?

...Maybe I just missing something. Any advice will be highly appreciated. Thanks!

Cheers!

Don't have a clue...

Are you using standard 10.8 install following Jessers123 guide ?

If the answer is YES, try -x and/or -f flags at boot. You may try UseKernelCache=No also

Best regards!

Jameskore, I have recently got a present from my boyfriend exactly the same model and so far I have managed to get it working under Mountain lion. To setup your laptop simply follow the tutorial on page 16 (the long how-to post) and just make sure the downloaded file from the App Store is correctly downloaded as I had to download mine twice in order to make the MultiBeast working with it.

So far almost everyting is working, however I am struggling to make the built in microphone and audio to work (without Voodoo HDA). So if anybody has any ideas to share with a MacNewbie lady, please do not hesitate ;)

The camera is working out of the box, however in skype nobody can hear me, no in any other sound recording software I have tried so far. I did install all the kexts available in this thread, however I can not still say it works :(

Did you installed FakeSMC.kext? If not install it. Also use GraphicsEnabler=No because HD4k does not work OOB. You can try following boot command:
-v -f -x GraphicsEnabler=No

Did you patch your DSDT to get audio working? You know... adding modified AppleHDA.kext and IOAudioFamily.kext to S/L/E is not enough. Try to patch your DSDT with patch provided by someone who added those kexts in this thread. Confirmed - it works on 10.8.3
