Computer Doesn't Recognize UniBeast USB as a Boot Option

Tonymacx86's Guide

I have been following the above guide word for word in an attempt to build my first hackintosh. In Tony's guide I made it all the way to step three with no issues but when I tried to boot from the USB I created it did not show up on my boot list. I am 100% sure that I created the USB correctly as I was able to do everything it said with no errors and made it to the "installation successful" screen at the end. I also followed the BIOS set up guide to properly configure my motherboard, but I couldn't set my UniBeast USB as a boot option. I did search through the forums and didn't find much to trouble shoot this issue. If anyone could point me in the right direction as to where I could solve this problem or offer some advise on something wrong with my build that would be awesome! I am very new to this so please go easy on me. If you require any other information feel free to ask. Thanks in advance!

Side Note: It's also worth mentioning that my Radeon HD 6850 graphics card pooped out on me.. So I need to get a different one from the same company. Any suggestion on that would be much appreciated as well. :)

When you say OS Win7 Is that on the same drive you're trying to install OS X on ?

What exactly do you see after pressing F12 ?

Have you met all of the following requirements ?

  • Remove graphics card in the 1st PCIe slot with 1 monitor plugged in to MB DVI/HDMI graphics.
  • Remove any hard drives besides the blank drive being used for OS X.
  • Remove any USB peripherals besides keyboard and mouse.
  • Remove any PCI cards they may not be Mac compatible.
  • It's best to use an empty hard drive- you will have to partition and format the drive.

Yes I have met all of those requirements, and am trying to install OSX Mountain Lion to a blank 128GB SSD. When I press F12 all I see is the blank disk "P3: SanDisk..." It does not show the USB as a boot option. :/ Sorry for the lack of info. Any suggestions?

Anyway try plugging the usb into some of the other USB ports till you find one working.
Do not use any of the USB 3 ports, they won't work.

Try to use any of the other usb 2.0 ports and see if unibeast shows up.
Also you could set your bios to boot from USB-HDD first.

I just reread your Mobo's specs. The UD3H has a VIA chip that controls some of the USB ports
on that board. Thats why it is not in the recommended list on the buyer's guide. VIA chips
do not work well with a Customac if at all. You'll need to find the USB 2.0 ports that are
not VIA. Try the one USB 2.0 header on the board itself. Connect it to the front usb ports
on your case if that is possible.

The UD5H doesn't have any of these problems. Why it's on the recommended list.

My motherboard does not have any USB 2.0 ports available. I am also using a USB 3.0 flash drive as to UniBeast install drive. Do you think that is the issue? It does not recognize the USB in the boot menu or the BIOS.

I have no idea what I just did but all of a sudden it booted from the USB drive... We will see how this goes.

Great, report back how it goes so others can learn.

I've never heard of any success with a USB 3.0 unibeast drive.
Maybe it can work !

Okay I have been stuck on this screen for the past 5 min.. I am guessing that it is not good. Any suggestions?
