Article: OS X 10.8.3 Update

Hi Guys,

I need some major help and as quickly as possible If I can, as this is a work computer. I installed the 10.8.3 update from the app store and everything loaded and booted fine. My problem is with Audio like most other people, but no matter what I do I can not get it working again. These are the things I have tried.

-Download latest Multi Beast and re-install ALC889 Driver without DST
-Manually delete AppleHDA.kext, restart and re-install ALC898 Driver without DST
-Use Kext Drop to install AppleHDA.kext, restart
-Manually delete AppleHDA.kext, restart and re-install ALC898 Driver without DST repaired permissions.

Nothing seems to work. I have a MSI MPower running ALC898 chip set

Please help

Thanks Daniel

ga-z77 mx d3h.
i7-3770K
gt640
32g ram
samsung ssd 830.
ML 10.8.2.
two monitors, one connected to HD4000 and one to gt640

i applied the nvidia cuda update, and then applied 10.8.3 combo update.

fonts look really bad on both monitors. no anti aliasing seems to be happening. a few other people appear to have reported similar problems, but there doesn't seem to be a fix or workaround so far.

any suggestions?

a little more information. the displays are a 27" 2560x1440 connected to gt640 dp and 21" 1920x1080 connected to mobo dvi. i suppose it's possible that osx thinks i have a retina display and has turned off anti-aliasing.

i tried again with 10.8.3 combo but without CUDA this time. no problems with the install. fonts are still skinny and rough.

thinking that perhaps my (non apple) LCD panels are not recognized by OSX, i tried setting the apple font smoothing parameter as mentioned on some older threads. no visible effect.

otherwise, 10.8.3 seems to be working fine for the most part (haven't used extensively though).

would love to get this fixed.

It is safe to run Time machine, or I should make a full image of the hard disk before updating to 10.8.3?
Thanks in advance!

OK, successful updated all 3 HSs from 10.8.1 to 10.8.3 through 10.8.2. Yes, sorry, I've been on 10.8.1 on all machines until now.
2 of the machines have the GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3. As mentioned throughout previous posts, just install 10.8.2 and/or 10.8.3 and reinstall ALC889 audio kext with Multibeast. Note: don't bother to install the kext after you install 10.8.2 since you have to do it anyway after you apply 10.8.3 (if you are on 10.8.1, that is).
My 3rd machine has ASUS P5Q. I've done the same, installed 10.8.2 and 10.8.3, booted with -x, removed AppleHDA.kext from S/L/E, installed the previous AppleHDA.kext which worked, rebooted and voila!
Hope this will help those with both GA-Z68Z-UD3H-B3 and with ASUS P5Q.

anyone know how long the update is supposed to take? im running a maximus v gene with intel i7 3770 integrated gfx, i did the restart and it seems to just keep spinning the little white spinner on the white logo screen with the grey apple, idk can i try shutting it down by chance and try botting safe mode with verbose to see if its having issues, idk im just using 1 hdd 7200 rpm, im worried ill have to re install everything :/
