Sandy Bridge SpeedStep HELP!
My system is using a Gigabyte X79UD3 + 3930k . I've had a stable build on 10.6.8 for a while but recently I noticed that my 4.5 GHz (multiplier) overclock wasn't showing up on 'About This Mac'; it would only display 3.8 GHz.
I've been scouring the internet for ways to get my overclock to work:
- Generating my own SSDT (and modding it to work with my DSDT) w/ revogirl's method
- Sandy bridge overclocked SSDT generated from OSX 10.7 Multibeast
- The above with(out) Generate C/P states and/or DropSSDT=Yes
- No DSDT
- Different SMBios'
- Different BIOS settings (Turbo on/off, 50/50/50/50/50/49 multipliers, C1)
Is it possible to overclock a Sandy Bridge processor on Snow Leopard? Could somebody point me in the right direction please?
EDIT: I was definitely barking up the wrong tree. I realized that the CPU was also being underreported in the BIOS. I was able to get past the 3.8 GHz limit by enabling EIST in my BIOS. My RAM speed was underclocked too; corrected it, not sure if this had anything to do with it.
I managed to boot into OS X once or twice, but during some experimental tweaking to test stability the boot hung on AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement. A quick google search revealed a patched AICPM and voila; Turbo + EIST + Patched AICPM = Overclock for SBe!
I do have a new question though: how does one go about enabled SpeedStep for my 3930k + X79UD3 combo?
