Can't see hard drive in second USB boot

When I go to the boot list in BIOS (by hitting f10) it doesn't show up. But the installer sees it and formats it just fine. I can see it when I go to the BIOS configuration in the boot order. When I remove the thumb drive the computer says there's nothing bootable.
But is it set to be in the boot order? Try setting it to be #1 in the boot order. Then boot without the thumb drive and press F10. Does it show up now? And if it does, select it and does it try to boot (but of course fail at some point)?

Otherwise, I'm thinking there must be some BIOS setting somewhere that isn't right, although I don't know what that is.

I'm not at work now. But I will try that Monday first thing. I do have USB drive priority set in the BIOS. But I think I had this problem even without that set.

The Unibeast drive is constructed correctly. The HD has been partitioned correctly. Is there some BIOS setting that would make non-MBR drives invisible?

I fixed the problem with the drive. It was a BIOS setting restricting boot to UEFI devices. I am booting from the internal drive having used multibeast 4.6.1 as described here http://www.tonymacx86.com/multibeas...ultibeast-5-0-2-intel-dp55wb-ml-10-8-a-3.html I also manually moved the boot1h file. Since I got kernel panics with multibeast 5.1.3 for Mountain Lion.

I can only boot to the desktop using the GraphicsEnabler=No flag, I also have no network. I have installed the hnak's AppleInteE1000e Ethernet driver as was indicated in my research of installations for DP55WG boards. But still no love. The HIS 4670 card doesn't seem to be supported without a struggle.

Any hints would be helpful.

I can't seem to get ethernet working. It says it's connected but it can't pull an IP in DHCP and when I set up a valid address , mask, router and DNS, it can't actually connect.

My understanding is this board uses an intel network chip. The graphics thing is still annoying too. Everything works in Ubuntu.

Re: 4670

Some people have had success booting: GraphicsEnabler=No

Others have had success booting: AtiConfig=Flicker PCIRootUID=1

I tried AtiConfig=Flicker PCIRootID=1 and no love. I guess I'm stuck with GraphicsEnabler=No.

I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong with the network either. My understanding was that the AppleIntel1000e driver would work.

I've been playing with several AppleIntelE1000e.kext files. As far as I can tell the plugin installed by Multibeast for Lion and the one I found on sourceforge both detect the cable but refuse to connect. even though during verbose boot They detect the right network speed. The kext file installed by multibeast 5.1.3-1 doesn't see the cable.

Pretty painful.

When I look up "DP55WG" and "ethernet", I don't find any success stories.

But with some kexts, it detects the cable. In that situation, try the following:

1. Manually set an IP that is in the range of your router
2. Make the following mods (courtesy
nikvdp.com):

a. Hit the "Advanced" button and go to the last tab ‘Hardware’
b. Set ‘configure’ to ‘Manually’
c. set Speed to ’100baseTX’ (unless you're on a gigabit network, then you can try 1000BaseT) and duplex to ‘Full Duplex’, leave MTU at "Standard (1500)"

Ok It's sorted. After trying an NIC and a USB ethernet adapter, it turns out the switch was broken. So now the box is pretty much fully functional. I updated to 10.8.2 and used migration assistant to move all my files over. Pretty cool. Thanks for all your help.
