i am thinking about getting a hackintosh with exactly that configuration. I am not an expert of hackintosh, i want an easy configuration already done.

Do you recommend me to buy any upgraded or newer part of that PC?¿ A newer gpu, or more ram...

thank you!

If you want to vary from the the parts in this golden build, you do so at your own risk. The idea of the "golden build" is to use the same (or nearly identical) components because they are known to be a) on the CustoMac approved hardware list, and b) are supported with DSDTs in the tonymacx86.com DSDT database.

Newer components right now would be risky as well, as they would be things like 7-series motherboards and Ivy Bridge processors. Those combinations are not "officially" supported yet (even though some super-users have been successful with their builds). but for a noob like yourself, stick with approved components IMHO.

Agree with the idea of the "golden build"...
Do you think your build can run under Snow Leo 10.6.8 ?
(too long to explain here why I return to SnowLeo)

Snow Leopard will run on Sandy Bridge systems (Z68 / i3/i5/i7-2xxx series of motherboards and processors, respectively).

Thanks for the info :)

Man, you guys must be in like Sin to be able to afford all that amazing gear.

I run my own project/home studio and it looks nothing, at all, as nice as what you guys are talking.

I just built my first Hackintosh to upgrade from my Macbook, which was the work horse of my whole rig.

I haven't ever used PCI-e gear for I/O management, I've always used Firewire. I'm currently running a M-Audio ProFire2626 (http://www.m-audio.com/products/en_us/ProFire2626.html) which I'd eventually like to get mod'd.

What kind of diffusion/absorption boards are those in your pics, BoomR? DIY or pre-made?

Hi!

I've got the same Syba Low Profile as you, installed in PCI slot.
But it doesn't work OOB. I connect external drive and nothing happens. Then I checked it with another drive with external power - same result.
Did you install any kext or something?

:)

The Syba FW card is a PCI-e slot card. It won't work in a PCI slot.

Of course, I understand, bur mine still doesn't work.
In system profile shows:
FireWire Bus:
Maximum Speed: Up to 800 Mb/sec

But no one device being recognized (

Hi,

I am researching and about ready to start the 'golden' build suggested. That being said, the motherboard suggested appears to be discontinued. Any advice for a working alternative?

I was thinking using the buyers guide 2012 recommendation : GA-Z77X-UD5H by Gigabyte :?:

My big concern was getting this MAC build functioning and stable (especially with protools 10) as I have concerns about deviating from the Golden build.

FYI:
  • Currently I have a Presonus StudioLive-16.4.2 and a Saffire PRO 40 that I hope to connect via the firewire ports
  • I am wanting to run Protools 10 based on the slight modification to the Golden build

Before I buy and build, I wanted to know what everyone's thoughts were (especially BoomR :headbang: )

Thanks
