Gigabyte Z690 Aero G + i5-12600K + AMD RX 6800 XT

Hi @CaseySJ and @Stork after over a month of full time use on my Hack, these are my findings thus far with waking from sleep issues with my i9-13900KF, 13.5.1:

:beachball: After wake from deep sleep, MX Master 2S mouse becomes jittery.

SOLUTION: connect it by internal Bluetooth, not dongle. This requires going through the write up Casey made for Intel internal Bluetooth for the Z790. It works much better than the dongle!

:beachball: After four wakes from deep sleep, not 3, not 2 but 4, clicking in Outlook and web browsers on the secondary monitor causes the monitor to lose connection and flicker black for a few times then come back. Each additional mouse click causes this to restart the cycle. Quitting apps don't help. Logging out, back in doesn't help. Downgrading LILU, WEG doesn't help.

SOLUTION: Settings, Display, click on secondary monitor and select refresh rate as 60hz, not variable hz.

:beachball: After 3 to 4 wakes from deep sleep, Bluetooth looses connectivity (mouse and keyboard)

SOLUTION: plug in via USB, go to Settings, Bluetooth, toggle off (NOTE: make sure Control Center has Bluetooth showing in menu Bar). Once Bluetooth is toggled off in Settings, you cannot toggle it on. However, in the Menu Bar, you can. Toggle it on. Bluetooth is restored.

If “automatically notify me of an uodate” is enabled, then one option is to wait until macOS tells you that an update is ready to be installed. That update should work.

I think I've tried everything, I believe it's time for a fresh install. :)

However, in my tinkering, I've messed something up that I can figure out how to undo. Now I have a sleep issue, the first sleep is ok, but it won't comeback from a second sleep. I have to switch the power switch on my PS off before I can even reboot the system. It's weird, the first sleep cycle always work, and the second time fails. The diagnostic logs just say "Sleep Wake failure in EFI".

Would someone mind taking a look at my config.plist and EFI to see if they see anything that looks wrong?

Edit: Upon first sleep, I hear a click and then the case power light goes out. Press a key, I hear a click and computer wakes up. Next sleep, I do not hear a click when the case power light turns off. Have to hold the power button in for while, then it clicks and I can press the power again and it will boot with the sleep wake error in /library/logs/diagnostic reports.

This problem is an Apple problem even with real Macs. While using BT is one solution as you you stated in your third problem it disconnects from the BT also. I found that the best thing for the MX master or other Logi tech mice is to get an extension cable USB-A ----> USB A and run it up to your desk effectively not allowing for anything to interfere with the signal from the mouse to the dongle.

I had this problem with the following systems 2018 Mac mini, 2013 Mac Pro, and my sister's iMac.

Anybody tried the public beta?

Ooofff, I fixed my sleep problem by simply going back to BIOS F7 from version 26. I have not tried F8.

To those running BIOS ver. F23 or newer, did you have to change anything else in your BIOS besides what's in the original guide and the quoted post below? I keep trying but I can't get mine to sleep properly unless I use F8 or lower; on F8 or less it sleeps perfectly.

** BIOS F23 Additional Settings **

  • Above 4G DecodingEnabled
  • Above 4G MMIO BIOS assignmentEnabled
    • Then a new option will appear under it:
  • Re-Size BAR SupportEnabled
    • Enable this if using a supported GPU (AMD RX 6000 series)
    • Also set Booter → ResizeAppleGpuBars → 0 in config.plist

A link to this has been added to the top of Post 1.

Assuming you're using a AERO-G-DDR4 as well, can you post your EFI and remove your serial number etc?

I've downgraded to that BIOS version as well as F4 and it hasn't helped, thanks.

here you are, OC 0.9.3 and F23 bios. But I have some extra kexts, such as Chelsio T580 40GBDriver, you need to adjust it.
Additionally, I do not know how to remove SN, so I regenerate the NEW SN in this EFI file.

My sleep works without any issue on a dual 4K monitor setup. I usually choose the sleep option before going to bed and click the mouse or keyboard to wake up on the next morning without any issues.
