Why the 1TB WD Black SN770 is the very best "Bang for your Buck" today

@trs96,
You have good luck/timing. It's now $95.

Update: It changes almost by the minute. It now costs $91.41.

Update 2: See trs96 posts below.

Here's how I changed the OP for those that might miss the key point. Note the bold red words below.

BTW, that's a great deal!
Note the link you posted goes to an Amazon warehouse return. Should buy the new one for 70 cents more just to be on the safe side. Never know what people do to hardware that they've sent back to Amazon. I really doubt that Amazon tests any returned NVMe drives.

Updated! Thank you for your help with this link. Great buy!

There are some odd remarks on Amazon about the SN770 not being compatible with Apple... is that Apple hardware or macOS?

I am contemplating between the 1TB SN770 or SN570... the price difference is only $12 at the moment. I am running a Z490 gen3 macOS only (Installed I have 2x 500GB Samsung 970 EVO Plus... one on MB and one on a PCIe card and so I have 1 slot open on MB). Regardless of generation, quality and performance wise would the SN770 be better than 570?

Mostly I want to replace 2x 14yr old WD MyBook HHD's I use for backup, but also I can add WD black and use it as boot and then make my Samsung's backup. :think:

Probably because Apple doesn't use standard M.2 connections in Macs with NVMe drives. You can't install a SN770 in a Mac, only use it externally. There may be adapters but they don't work in all Macs.

If they're just for backups no need to spend more money on the 770s. You wouldn't notice much difference between the two. What matters most is the boot drive as that's in constant use. 2TB size WD NVMe drives will hold up with a lot of writing to them 1200 TBW is what they're rated.

If your WD HDDs are 14 Y.O. and still work, that tells you something. Amazing they've not failed yet. What did those cost 14 years ago ? A lot more than $115 each I'd guess.
