Gigabyte Z690 Aero G + i5-12600K + AMD RX 6800 XT

@CaseySJ well, I was planning to try out a 2018 Mac Mini + eGPU for a modern mac desktop on the cheap, but stumbled across your guide instead. Wow, did I get way more machine for my money, I'm astounded.

Used mostly your same parts list, only exceptions being the Sapphire Nitro 6600xt, an Asus ROG Thor 850w PSU, and a cheaper ram kit (I kind of doubted I'd miss out on the fastest DDR4 exp, don't do any high end gaming etc.):

Everything just worked. Fastest MacOS install I've ever seen. HackinDROM Opencore upgrade seamless. Had a bit of confusion but finally figured out which SSDTs to enable for Wifi + Bluetooth, now works swell. Got my Titan Ridge card coming in a few days, this machine checks all the boxes for a high end Mac on the cheap.

Wanted to share another success story and pause a moment to say thank you before returning to enjoy my powerful modern setup, thanks man!

Glad to hear it! Intel's 12th Gen (Alder Lake) is cheaper now, which means the price-performance ratio is even better. It also seems that 12th Gen Hackintoshes are more reliable (less finicky) than 13th Gen.

Random question for all, anyone else using 6600 XT? Apparently it has a "Zero RPM" feature which doesn't allow GPU fans to kick in until ~55C + temps. Seems a little hot to be running before getting relief. Has anyone found a smooth way to disable this feature? I saw this guide here, looked a bit intimidating to me to try:

I've logged onto Windows, disabled the silent fan mode and logged back into MacOS.

Worked perfectly fine, I've actually preferred to keep it at silent mode.

These cards are designed to operate like that, which means 55C is perfectly okay before fans start. Air is already circulating inside the case due to chassis and radiator fans that are constantly spinning.

Got it, sounds like nothing to worry about, thanks @BitSavage for the tip if I do need to disable. Haven't gotten Windows dual boot running yet but I'll give it a shot when I do

Hello @CaseySJ I updated the Ethernet config according to your guide for I225 on my z690 aero g. And the system report shows the same results as yours (ethernet detected, Driver: com.apple.DriverKit-AppleEthernetE1000), but it does not detect the connected ethernet cable. This cable works on the other ethernet card. Do you have any suggestions to fix this issue? Thanks!

If I follow the guide, my I225V port also is inactive (in fact, the port disappears from SystemInfo without any DeviceProperties injection). Only if the DeviceProperties, as shown below, are injected, does the I225V work on my ASUS Z690 Max Extreme under Ventura (13.1; and same under Monterey 12.6.2).

Notice that the device-id below is not F3158680. On my Z690, this device-id won't allow the I225V port to be active (its driver is not installed). Only if the device-id and vendor-id are entered separately, as shown below, does the I225V port become active (and no special boot-args were used).

If the above I225V DeviceProperties are injected, then SystemInfo looks as follows:
SystInfo-I225V.png

and the driver for I225V is properly installed:

Thanks. I just tried your method, both PCI and Ethernet sections are showing the info, but still not working.

Which version of macOS are you running?

Did i225-V work in previous version of macOS?

If there are multiple EFI partitions, is the system booting from the correct partition?

In IOReg, what are the sub-vendor ID and sub-vendor device ID?
