I tried asking this same question on the Bootloader forum but got ZERO replies. If this again is the wrong place to ask this question please let me know where I should post it.

I am attempting to update my Opencore from 0.7.1 to 0.7.4 on my Z97 Hackintosh. I am on MacOS 11.6

When I boot off the USB stick, on which I have put OC 0.7.4 and the update to config.plist, the Hack starts up the the OpenCanopy selector, and sees my disks. I boot off of my Big Sur 11.6 SSD disk that just booted cleanly on OC 0.71 (many times since June) and the console starts to scroll.

Just about where the loader appears to boot from the disk it freezes. Nothing else happens. No messages, no debug information

I can then boot off the SSD into Catalina using the OC 0.7.1 on its EFI partition all day long.

The 0.74 version passes the ocvalidate check and a manual review.

I first I thought it was something to to with the SecureBootMode, which I have changed from Default to Disabled, but there is no difference; no successful boot in either case.

Where do I go from here?

No idea what the problem is, and really don't want to go down the path of full debug of OC. Any suggestions? Attached is my config.plist (renamed and SMBIOS section deleted) and the boot verbose log from one of my last failing attempts. When I compare that log file with successful boots on OC 0.71 I don't see an obvious errors being reported.

I have attached my config.plist, with SMBIOS items removed, asking if the problem lies there.

I should also add that I have tried to create the OC 0.7.4 update in serveral different USB sticks, but all attempts fail the same way. OS does not boot.

Thanks in advance.

XhciPortLimit
@Feartech,

Thanks so much for the reply.

Your suggestion did NOT work. No difference. I changed Kernel-Querks-XhciPortLimit to false. Still did not boot.

Attached is OC boot debug log. I don't see anything obvious in it.

seen this, but probably wouldn't stop loading:

I agree this won't or should not stop the boot. If one looks at the repository one can see that the icons/images that it is complaining about are not there either. So I have no clue where these messages are coming from..

Z97-Boot-Failure-Stop-Screen.jpg

This is where it stops, after selecting the boot disk, and yes I'm selecting the same boot disk that works with OC 0.7.1

I am using boot args of: "-v keepsyms=1 debug=0x100"

Only difference from 0.7.1 config is the addition of debug=0x100 which I added to aid debug - which imho it is not doing.

I am running the DEBUG versions of 0.7.4, as I failed first on the release versions.

just seen all your other posts, doesn't look like you have much luck in updating opencore

was there something in 0.7.4 that is needed for your machine?

I have searched a found nothing. I don't understand why my upgrade from 0.6.8 to 0.7.1 on the Z97 was standard, but I can't get 0.7.4 to work. I have another Hack, my Z390-I which is running on OC 0.7.5, and I have upgraded that since 0.5.7, in short I've done this many times.

I posted on the forum hoping someone would know if there's something special in 0.7.4 for the Z97, but you have been my only response.

Because I can't get to 0.7.4, or beyond, on my Z97 I can't upgrade it to 12.0.1. My Mac definition is iMac16,1 which I have been using for several years.

Just stumped... :banghead:

I'm not sure how much insight this will provide but in the Dortania Install Guide under the trouble shooting section they address the dreaded Stuck on EB Log ExitsBS Start

Thanks for the tip! I will investigate, after Turkey Day, and get back to this post.
