[Guide] Intel NUC7/NUC8 using Clover UEFI (NUC7i7Bxx,NUC8i7Bxx,etc)

Well, some questions for you. How are you trying to boot Windows? Are you trying to load it from the OpenCore boot menu, if you are does Windows not show as an option or does it show and not boot? Or are you hitting the F10 at boot and choosing the Windows Boot Manager and its not booting?
I'm hitting F10 and choosing drive that containing Windows installation. Worked well previously on BigSur installation side by side, but not with this Monterey. I'm afraid new OC overriding the Windows boot config.

I have read several pages ago about flashing the Thunderbolt port an its risk. I understand that if it is not flashed it's not possible to do hot-plug, supension, etc.

In my use case I would only like to install and run the system in a external nvmi attached to a Thunderbolt 3 case (I haven't not yet). It would be any problem with that ?

Thanks

Unusual but possible, what happens when you try to load windows? Do you get an error message?

You can always try, I don't know if it will work though. To use Thunderbolt you'll need to disable Thunderbolt Security in the bios, once you have the drive set up it should show it the OC Boot Picker Menu

Ok thanks again, I asked because I have not the drive yet, but I will buy it and try

I have installed Big Sur in a Crucial MX500 SSD using a external usb 3 case (it took about 4 hours in a NUC8i3BEH!) and confirm that everything but the wifi works well.

I used the 'NUC8i7OC7.3.zip' file (I didn't tried with the newer 7.4 or 7.5 OC versions).

1) Internal Bluetooth works (I have not tested it in depth) although the device does not appear in the system preferences.

2) Sound via HDMI works too.

3) I installed https://github.com/chris1111/Wireless-USB-Big-Sur-Adapter in order to use wifi with two tplink dongles: Tplink wifi Archer T2U Plus AC600 and TPlink USB Nano (TL-WN725N)

Next week I will try installing in a external nvme using the Thunderbolt 3 port (I know it's possible on real Mac but I have read it's recomended to disable that port at installation).

Now I will continue trying to get a 'invalid serial' (I'm going for about 70 tries).

anybody tried with tha latest OC versions to make the Nuc more silent, specifically using voltageshift.kext?

I used it previously with clover and the device was a lot quieter. For OC, my understanding is I'd add the kext to the corresponding folder + add it to the plist like the other exts.

You know you can adjust the fan speed in the bios right? The i5 I had was quieter than the i7 I have now, have you checked and made sure everything is clean inside?

Finally I got today a nvme EMTEC X300 256GB today and a USB-C case, and installed Big Sur with no problem. it took half time this way, 2:15 hours in my NUC8i3BEH.
