Gigabyte Z390 M Gaming build with working NVRAM

@pastrychef, thanks. I remember darkly, that I read this some months ago already. :)

Will the customized splash screen survive BIOS updates? Or have I set this again after each BIOS update?

I'm not positive, but my guess is that it would have to be re-done after a BIOS update. That being said, I've been on BIOS F9l for a very long time and have no intentions of updating. I've experienced too many instabilities with other versions of BIOS especially with RAM and I'm loath to switch.

@pastrychef, you're right. I'm on F9m since it's release and have actually also no intentions of updating.

The only thing, which would worth to update, are improvements for Thunderbolt, because I use 2 Thunderbolt-Displays on the Titan Ridge card. But in general, the whole system simply works. :) ...no need to update.

So I think, I will try out the splash screen modification and see how long it "stays alive". ;-)

@pastrychef, it works. I've used the black & white Apple logo.
But one question: How did you get managed to hide the text with the keyboard shortcuts ("F12 ... END...") at BIOS boot? On my screen, they are visible for 2 - 3 seconds.

I have that too.

Hello @LiveSorcerer and @pastrychef,

Don't know if it can help you...

I got the same Samsung 970 Evo and use it with PastryChef EFI without pb, but since 11.3 update, I got the same kernel panic was you, randomly, after 30s to a minute...

I've been trying lot's of things to solve this included NVMEfix.kext, firmware update... but still no luck.
After lots of trying I finally find the problem, I am now sure it's related to Thunderbolt (I got a Titan Ridge 2 Add-In Card).
If I remove the Add-In card everything works like a charm, I can update to 11.4 without a pb.

as soon as I boot with thunderbolt card in, it freeze with NVMe panic.

I think weed need to hard flash the bios from the thunderbolt card to make it work again, but I'm not sure on how to do it and don't have the tool for the moment. (look at this post https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/...bolt-3-i7-9700k-amd-rx-580.267551/post-208752)

Sorry for my English. Hope it will help you.

@LiveSorcerer @MRbrOwNfRoMLa - Did you guys find a solution to this issue? I found your post after doing a search, but didn't go through the next 14 pages to see if you found a resolution.

I have been trying to upgrade to Big Sur from Mojave, and after many unsuccessful attempts using my existing EFI, I tried pastrychefs EFI. It allowed me to install Big Sur, but I get the same kernel panic you posted about after about 1 minute. I also have the Titan Ridge AIC, and mine is flashed. I need it for my monitor, so no option to pull it out.

The good news is I had already tried the Monterey beta and it worked fine for over 2 days of testing it out. I probably won't spend any more time on it, but I was somewhat concerned that being unable to update to Big Sur may eventually become an issue with Monterey as well.

@nottooshabby, I can confirm this. From 11.4 on the TitanRidge card isn't working anymore in Big Sur. And yes it's working again in macOS 12 Monterey beta. Because I only use Apple Thunderbolt displays, I've skipped Big Sur and hope that Monterey will solve this problems. But on the Beta 6 of Monterey other problems come up, for example Non-working-Bluetooth with BCM943602CS card. :(

Thanks for the confirmation. I have the Fenvi card and it did work ok with Monterey beta 6, so I did have working bluetooth. Hopefully final release will work okay for us.

I have a flashed Titan Ridge, and it works as well as my Mac mini. If your having an issue, maybe it is your config. I am running 11.5.2, and I used a few of the early beta on Monterey, but sleep kept breaking. So I went back to Big Sur. I use a the modified Z390 firmware on my AIC R1.0 Titan Ridge card. It works best when jumping the 3-5 pin rather then connecting the TB_C header. I user TB3 Mac <=> TB3 Windows to connect Remote Desktop. The speed is so good it is like using the Windows machine natively.

@scottkendall, the problem was starting with 11.4. Until 11.3 it‘s all good and it’s also working on Monterey. So I don't think, it's not a (software) config problem.

I read also from others, that they had the same problems. Maybe it's related to the Samsung EVO 970, which is also used in the system. It maybe a incompatibility with exactly this combination (Titan Ridge card + Samsung EVO 970).
