Gigabyte Z490 Vision D (Thunderbolt 3) + i5-10400 + AMD RX 580

Casey sorry but there's no EFI partition in the Windows disk. Is there a way to create one once the drive has been formatted?
Unfortunately I’m not aware of a way to create an EFI partition after the fact. If you see Post 1, you will find a section on how to install Windows on this system “properly”. ;)

Hahaha Yes, I read it. I guess I should have my Catalina SSD removed phisically when re- installing Windows?
Would that have worked?

Would this be a work around? I have my Windows installation backed-up on a USB3 external case (I've been a good boy after all). Could I format the Windows partition, create the EFI and then restore Windows?

OH! AND Thanks for ALWAYS being there!

That post actually recommends using macOS to format the Windows MVMe SSD using Disk Utility and scheme=GUID Partition Map. Then remove macOS disks and proceed with Windows install.

I have a question about Thunderbolt 3.
I have a Gigabyte Z390M motherboard with a Gigabyte Titan Ridge 2.0 Thunderbolt 3 card.
I apply the SSDT from your web site, I've added the IOReg Thunderbolt 3 tree image.

Issue is I don't have USB working even though it's enabled in the BIOS.
Any idea what's going on?
Thanks a lot...

Please post the following information:
  • With a USB-C device connected to either of the two USB-C ports on GC-Titan Ridge, run IORegistryExplorer and post the IOReg file (File --> Save As...).
  • Make/model of the USB-C device you are trying to connect.

Hi there,

thanks a lot for your reply.

I've attached a photo of the SATA to USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type C adapter.
I've attached 2 IOReg files. The first with the device connected to the USB Type C port on the motherboard, the second with the device USB Type C connected to one of the Thunderbolt ports. In this case nothing becomes visible in the Thunderbolt 3 tree.

I've used this device in the past on Gigabyte Titan Ridge Thunderbolt 3 ports and it always worked.

Please post the Thunderbolt SSDT that you're using. It does not look correct.

Here it is the SSDT attached.
I've downloaded it under your web site selecting Gigabyte GC-Titan Ridge v1 or v2. Then I modifies the PCIe address.

Thanks a lot for your help.

EDIT 1:
On this Gigabyte GC-Titan Ridge v2 Thunderbolt 3 card I've only the 5pin TB header connected to the motherboard. Not the small 3 pin header, USB 2.0 header or power connectors.

EDIT 2:
I'm trying in Windows 10 ,too. BUT such USB Type C cable is not seen in Windows as well.
Also it's not seen in OpenCore at boot.
Is there anything not working?

EDIT 3:
I've tried with another Type C cable connected to an external NVMe that works on the motherboard USB Type C port BUT it's not seen in the Thunderbolt 3 port.
Can it be a defective Thunderbolt or motherboard?
I've attached the IOReg file without Thunderbolt 3 SSDT

Hello @PeterAF,

Welcome to the forum and glad to hear the build went well. Sleep issues are most commonly caused by misbehaving USB devices, typically those connected internally, such as:
  • Liquid all-in-one coolers (with USB connection)
  • RGB lighting controllers (with USB connection)
  • Smart power supplies (with USB connection)
  • Bluetooth (USB data cable)
We always go through the Process of Elimination to identify the culprit. This is easily done by disconnecting all internal USB connections and then connecting only one of them at a time.
Hi Casey,

Many thanks for your reply. I do not have any liquid all-in-one coolers, RGB lighting controllers and smart power supplies.

I unplugged the USB cable of the Fenvi T919 card. Only the keyboard and the USB mouse were connected during the test. The computer did go to sleep for 2 seconds and then woke up again, the display kept dark until I restarted the signal settings via the monitor menu. Then I was able to log in again.

I attach the log file of the test. I am a Hackintosh beginner and do not really know how to read and interpret the file. Could you please (or someone else here) have a look at it?

Thanks

Hello @zzmadd,

Your SSDT is actually okay.

Thanks for posting IOReg without SSDT activated. It shows that macOS is unable to find USB ports when it searches the system for devices.

Some questions:
  • Are you using the original Thunderbolt firmware that came with the GC-Titan Ridge v2?
  • Which version of macOS are you running?
  • Have you bridged the top and middle pins of the vertical 5-pin J1 header?
    • When holding the GC-Titan Ridge v2 vertically with PCI pins facing the floor, the top and middle pins of J1 header should be jumpered together.
