If a pattern cannot be found, my next recommendation is to boot from the bootable backup disk if that backup was made several days or weeks ago. See if the wake-from-sleep crash still occurs.Hi CaseySJ,
That's an interesting question and I need to see if there is an actual pattern somewhere.
The wake-from-sleep crash sometimes also happens where no external drives or other factors are involved - just seemingly out of a clear blue sky.
As for the drives, all three are older HDDs in USB enclosures, all in NTFS formats.
What I cannot understand is why every time there is a crash I cannot see anything on the monitor - in fact it does not wake up at all.
- Any ideas what I could try to resolve?
If the bootable backup disk also leads to wake-from-sleep crashes, then we should install a fresh copy of macOS on a spare 128GB (or other cheap) SATA SSD mounted either (a) internally or (b) in a USB 3 enclosure. No third-party applications should be installed. Instead, check if sleep/wake crashes still occur. If no crashes occur, then install one of your applications at a time and test sleep/wake again.
Yes it's advisable to install BIOS F5 (but not F7c because I don't trust any Gigabyte BIOS at this time that contains resizable Base Address Register support). I'm not sure that it will affect sleep/wake reliability, but it's still worth doing.- You did not respond to my question whether I should upgrade my BIOS (3a) to the newest one- could this fix it?
