[Guide] Booting The USB Installer Using OpenCore

Hey @Feartech

First off, it's amazing you have the time to help every single person do this. I'm sure it's very frustrating at times, which is why I've tried my absolute best to do as much research as I could before I even asked this question. The community and Hackintosh noobs thank you!

I have an HP ProBook 640 G2 (hardware profile updated) and I followed your guide to a T at first. I also have secure boot disabled, TPM disabled, fast boot disabled, VTd disabled, basically my BIOS settings are correct and it's on the latest version for my laptop.

The problem I am having is I always get stuck at "Forcing CS_RUNTIME for entitlement: com.apple.private.security.kext-management" when booting the installer. I have found that if I change my graphics device ID to anything other than 16260000, I get stuck at "IOConsoleUsers: gIOScreenLockState 3". I've tried changing SMBios entries and using GenSMBIOS to get a serial number and board number, things like that. Still no avail. I do believe this may be a kext error, but I don't know why, as I've used all the kexts in your excellent guide, and other people report it works with very similar systems.

The one thing I have not tried is another flash drive because I don't have another one in my college dorm room. I have noticed that when trying to copy my OC folder off the flash drive, it gets to a certain point and halts. I am able to grab the config.plist from the drive though and it is attached. There may be a problem with my flash drive, but unfortunately I don't have another to test with right now. I just wondered if you had any other ideas as to why this would be happening. Thank you so much for your help and for the tutorial, this is the Lord's work!
howdy!

so your skylake system, you should be able to keep the settings the same using the efi folder from post 1 as that is already setup for skylake

AAPL,ig-platform-id should be 00001B19
device-id should be 1B190000

if you use those settings and still get an error:
IOConsoleUsers: gIOScreenLockState 3
then that is a graphics issue

but having fbmem, patch-enable and stolenmem, unifiedmem etc enabled, should sort that out for you

you don't need:
-lilubetaall boot argument
and you should keep to the same smbios from post 1

may be worth checking your BIOS if you can set DVMT to 64MB

also if you are unable to copy files from your usb stick, then the system may throw a wobbly when trying to install, so probably best to grab a new usb stick when you can

Dude....you are a genius.

Replaced my EFI folder with the one from post 1. Plugged into my laptop, literally booted right to the installer. Fast AF.

I was following another guide to figure out what series laptop I had, and I was following the Broadwell instructions. I'm not super familiar with the different series Intel chips (I'm an AMD guy)

Installing now. Back to the guide I go! Thanks again :))

Hey! It's amazing what you can do when people update their hardware profile ;)

I am currently typing this from Catalina on my HP :) only things I need to figure out how to get working is my sound and battery status, and my brightness adjustment on my keyboard. I've poked around Hackintool and installed a kext to fix my trackpad already, just gotta figure out how to fix everything else!

I honestly don't think I could thank you enough. I got my sound working thanks to you, the battery patch looks to be a little more than what I want to get into tonight. I still have to do my homework that I've put off all day lmfao. Also, just got my Intel 8260 wireless working thanks to a prototype project called OpenIntelWireless. You've been a huge help Feartech. This has been the most fun I've had with a computer in a longgg time and I'm an IT guy by trade! (all PCs, of course :))

Hi, I am trying to install Catalina(10.5.7) with opencore on my Kabylake laptop.
Intel core i5 7200. HD620
Crucial 240GB m2 SSD

So, the problem is, my installer is stuck after reboot on 10min remaining and this happens only when I am trying to install on SSD, means I tried to install the same on a different HDD (an old one from a laptop) and got success every time, but no luck with the SSD. Is there something i am missing?
For troubleshooting I already checked
1. the SSD health
2. Completely erased the SSD
3. Re made the installer
4. Changed the date and time
5. User different opencore version 0.5.8 to 0.6.3
6. chnaged the prev:lang:kbd to english US

opencore sanitychecker is showing my config.plist is good. Now when i run the installer, it stops and reboots saying "MacOS could not be installed on your computer". When i quit the installer, my Hard drive would be gone from disk utility.. it shows back when I reset NVRAM.
Does anyone have any idea what is happening?

Hi all!
After many modifications I obtained a config.plist good for opencore sanity checker (I'm trying to install Catalina from an usb drive created from macos with the native createinstallmedia application).
I have a Dell Vostro 3558 equipped with Intel i5-5200U without discrete GPU (only integrated Intel HD 5500).
As you can see in photo attached, boot stucks. It doesn't seem a kernel panic...

@Feartech, could you help me?

Thank you for help!

Ivan
