Just trying to make sure I'm understanding things. My current system definitions are "iMac 14,2" and I'm on Clover 5119. So in order to update to Big Sur, I need to:

Update Clover etc.
• Update and install the latest Clover
• Append "quirks" to my config.plist
• Update kexts, replace some outmoded ones

[[OR switch over to Open Core]]?

Assuming that works, then:

Update my Mac's Product Model to something like 17,1
• Sign out of iCloud, AppleID, AppStore, etc.? and maybe other applications
• Generate a new Serial Number
• Generate a new SmUUID

Make sure everything works
• Sign back into iCloud, AppleID, AppStore, etc.

THEN it should be ready update to Big Sur? Or am I still missing some steps?

Or I suppose I could just stick with Catalina until the first generation of new Apple Silicon iMacs are released... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Although a lot of progress has been achieved with Clover, personally if you want smooth operation and future trouble free OS X updates, get to know OC and make the transition to it. You will be pleasantly surprise and wonder why you didn't make the switch earlier.

Don't get me wrong, Clover when configured correctly is still a viable option, but in my opinion it has to use quite a bit of Opencore files to be able to run BS and as someone quite deftly describe the process having to use bits of Opencore to get Clover to work, 'Its like fitting the Gas Pipe to the Water Outlet'.

Since switching to OC I have zero problems with updates or clean installs and use a single EFI Folder booting Win10, Mojave, Catalina and Big Sur.

No future OS X updates anymore... It’s now the age of macOS 11.

i could easily move to opencore from Clover 5126. my only concern is i have a dual boot system with catalina and win 10 on 2 seperate ssd‘s. I read a lot you need special configuration that open core picker doesnt use the patched acpi‘s for win 10 and as well that it doesnt change the efi for win 10. i never found a good guide for that? Probably i dont know where to look after...Would be great to get something as a starting point...
This is my Opencore Boot Menu, as I stated in a post before I have a setup that hot plugs Catalina or Mojave as well as Win10 Pro on an NVME Drive and BS also on an NVME Drive all booting from a single Opencore EFI Folder residing on BS EFI Partition.
Zero problems with my setup.

Like your menu, how to get those gorgeous icons in your OC config?

Quite easy to do and now quite an extensive library of Icons to choose from. Some of the same Clover Icon developers are now building for OC with repositories on GitHub. In the Theme Master Folder there are many Icon Folders to choose from, a good tip is to replace like for like in the OC folder with a sample of your choosing. See files attached.

Do you have a link to creating the graphics for the boot picker?

Do you mean to create your own? Because I posted everything you will need to change your Boot Menu Icons style.
If you're looking for more in-depth info, Google OC icons and it should point you to the GitHub repository.
