that is a great idea thanks a lot
but why do i need to monitor the fan under mac os ?
0db until 60 is perfect for me. but why monitor the fan ? or maybe you meant monitor the temp ?

Some things to consider. IMacs with the 5300 and 5700xt are using the system fans to cool the cards. This may explain the fan issues?
On the other hand, egpu boxes are also supported using these cars for older macs. So it may be a matter of creating a pp table as suggested or finding a Framebuffer that matches. Or both.

What you just mention deserves more investigation. It will be interesting to compare the PCIe 5700XT video device properties with eGPU 5700XT box device properties...

You need to monitor the temp to see what the card is running at when you are doing what ever it is you are doing where you think the cards fan should not spin up.

what is the best accurate way I can monitor the cpu and gpu temps ?
HWmonitorSMC2 or Istats however, I am not sure how accurate they really are. Currently, my GPU is running at 53C & 56C and I only have a Terminal, email, and web browser open. Not really sure what the ambient temp is in the room. But my CPU is running at around 33C with an AIO water cooler.

istat does not show gpu temps.
does hwmonitor2 ?
Istats probably will if you install HWmonitor2 but I do not know if the sensors work correctly for a RX5700 it took a really long time for them to work on a Vega much longer than the RX5700 has been out.

just completed my 3rd try installed istat and hwmonitor dont know whats going on here I cannot see the gpu temp no matter what I am trying.

Someone has to create the hooks to make the sensors work maybe no one has done it for the RX5700. Like I said in my previous post it took a really long time for them to work on the Vega much longer then the RX5700 has been out. mostly in a Idle state with nothing crazy intensive open my card is at 61C now after about 35 mins of being on that would be enough to turn the fans on.
