Apple Announces "3rd Transition" for macOS: From Intel CPUs to Apple Silicon

Traditional car manufacturers didn't make electric cars until Tesla showed them that there's a market for them and it can be better than using combustion engines.

Better for who? I have both! The Tesla is pretty but so is my 4-Runner in a different way. I constantly catch people gawking at the 4-Runner but almost never see anyone looking at the Tesla (could be because I live in LA and Teslas are everywhere or maybe because the 4runner is Red). I personally prefer to drive the 4-Runner in all its 17 MPG glory. But really most of the energy in LA is produced by polluting power plants so is it really cleaner? The Tesla Operating costs are lower for sure but only about $100 - $150 a month.

The main reason I got the Tesla is so when I am late I can drive in the carpool lane solo and get around the traffic. I used to Ride a Motorcycle but it has gotten way to dangerous to ride in Los Angeles.

Better for the environment?
Some people rent out their Tesla a few days a week to help make their payments on it. Makes sense for those working from home. You can also put up solar panels and a Powerwall in your garage for a clean source of electricity to charge the car.

Here's a Rorschach test. Look at the image PCmag used for their Intel earnings call article today. What does the Intel sign look like to you ? Intel just lost 40 billion in market cap, today. Instead of announcing another delay, Intel should have said, "We're going to have TSMC make all our chips from now on." Then they would have gained about 20 billion in market cap.

PCMag could have Photoshopped the sign to say: RIP July 18, 1968 - July 24, 2020

I don't see the situation as being that dire. They're still a profitable company, they're making a lot of money in the server space. They may stop manufacturing CPUs altogether and make even more money than they do now.

That's the lie they tell you, it is only better if the power comes from clean energy chances are in LA it is not clean.

If you have 40k to burn for the powerwall's. Many of the incentives to go solar are gone it is not the free power promise that it used to be.

They built all these solar fields in the Mojave desert and many of them have to be stripped and rebuilt after like 25 years. A huge amount of resources going into something that will be torn down in 25 years.

I have a friend that lives in LA. I calculated what he'd need to spend on solar and powerwalls. It came to about 23K and it would pay for itself in less than 15 years. If he were going to keep living there for 15 years it would make sense. He's probably going to cash out and escape from LA much sooner than that.

Everyone is different however "I use a lot of power", last time I looked just for the power walls I was looking at 38k after rebates and such same 15 years. I have not lived at any residence for more than 6 years and upgrades like panels and powerwalls on leases detur a lot of buyers.

That just means your source of power isn't clean. The car itself is cleaner than cars using combustion engines.

By now, I've learned the hard way: In 2001, I destroyed a very productive songwriting workflow when I sold my IIci, my 840AV, and finally my 7600 (running OS 8.6 and Opcode's Studio Vision Pro) to buy a new G4 533 and a Digi001. It was a costly mistake and I'm almost back to where I have a pretty good workflow. –But it's still not as good as that old crusty stuff that for all its flaws, simply worked.

In a few years, it is likely that I'll simply internet-air-gap my useful Pro Tools/VSL machines and simply AirDrop or SAN files to an iPad or a iPhone to distribute finished work.
Unless orchestral music is cancelled by then.

A little OT but who is the greatest composer ever ? Not in terms of your opinion or personal favorite, but the one that was the most unique and innovative.
