Hello, guys! I've decided to update my macOS Catalina 10.15.3 to 10.15.4 Beta 3 via System Update (because it fixes Plex, Netflix and other issues in Safari). After installation I got “The bless tool was unable to set the current boot disk” error message. System loads fine, but after installation I found additional boot "Install macOS from Macintosh HD - Data" entry in Clover (which i fixed by deleting install files on the drive left by installator).

And now I just wonder if installation was performed successfully? Did install manager finish all procedures or I have to check or fix something? Is it okay to get this message after installation?

Same problem here. Where are those files left by unstallator? I can't find them. I want to remove this additional boot DATA drive too. Can you please give more specific info where can we find this files to delete? Thank you!

Hi guys, I exactly have the same problem. Whilst upgrading from 10.15.3 to 10.15.4 I encountered "The bless tool was ..." message. Being back in Catalina it looks like I got upgraded. However, I noticed 2 things:
a. I all of the sudden have an additional "volume name - DATA" partition the disk util program shows.
b. I see a bunch of additional boot entries whilst rebooting my machine.

Any advice how to overcome those issues?

Bless tool requires access to nvram (real or emulated)
SIP set for NVRAM access

Found this out using OpenCore - I don't know how it works, but it works

Hi, how change "SIP set for NVRAM access"?

... and is it still required afterwards when the installation went through, despite this message popping up during the installation process?

Clover configurator
Rt Variables
CsrActiveConfig 0x67

I hope your memory fix driver also fixes nvram issues with Z390 chipset
Even though I am new to opencore it its looking good

Find the path "macOS Install Data" and delete it .
In my computer this path is under /System/Volumes/Data.

You need to look for "Install macOS Data" folder in root directory of your "Macintosh HD - Data" drive and delete it.
Open disk utility> Right click on "Macintosh HD - Data"> Show In Finder

This thread should help you:

EDIT: My system is now running Catalina 10.15.6 just fine, despite the "bless tool" error during the Catalina update. My steps to update my old system are here. I no longer have any concerns about my system - I don't think the "bless tool" error has any detrimental effects on the final installation.

------------------------------------------------

During the Catalina 10.15.4 upgrade (from 10.15.3) on my Dell Latitude E6410, I observed the error "An error occurred while preparing the installation." I ignored the error and rebooted from the newly created Installer on my SSD (which was still created despite the error) and then observed the error "The bless tool was unable to set the current boot disk."

I ignored the "bless tool" error and rebooted from my upgraded Catalina partition. The Catalina version is reported as 10.15.4.

I manually deleted '/System/Volumes/Data/macOS Install Data.'
