[Guide] Intel NUC7/NUC8 using Clover UEFI (NUC7i7Bxx,NUC8i7Bxx,etc)

Hi Leesureone, thanks for your reply. Files in EFI/Clover/ACPI/patched are attached bellow, together with my config.plist and screenshots for EFI/Clover/kexts and EFI/CLOVER/drivers64UEFI.

Okay, I am going to attach my EFI folder for comparison in which Hot Plugging USBc works. Thunderbolt works as well as long as the device is plugged in at boot and that is considered normal. Can you please also verify the location of your kexts, do you have any Hackintosh kexts installed in Library/ Extensions? I recommend one location, either EFI/Clover/Kexts?Other or L/E. We can come back to that if you like.

I notice you have three different memory drivers installed and you should only need one, compare you drivers to mine to see what I mean. The PNG attached is labeled 1,2 and 3 where yo should only need 3. Yours versions are also an older version that can be updated in clover if you like.

I can see you also went a different route to enable sound and in comparison the amount of kexts you are loading is fine but some are unnecessary. Again you can compare to my EFI folder.

To repair your USBc functionality it may be as easy as adding the SSDT-TYPC-NUC8-BC.aml to your ACPI/patched folder which is attached separately. See if that works

Thanks for your very detailed instructions, Leesureone! After putting SSDT-TYPC-NUC8-BC.aml into ACPI/patched folder, USB-C Hot Plugging works perfectly! About other problems you've mentioned:

No, no hackintosh kexts are installed in /L/E or /S/L/E, they are all located in EFI/Clover/kexts/Other as I know.

I notice you have three different memory drivers installed and you should only need one

Did I misunderstand something? I thought both OsxAptioFixDrv-64.efi and EmuVariableUefi-64.efi are required. I deleted OsxAptioFix2Drv-free2000.efi, after reboot everything seems normal.

I can see you also went a different route to enable sound and in comparison the amount of kexts you are loading is fine but some are unnecessary.

Yes, but I don't really understand this setup, since audio is fine now, I think I'd better leave it intact.

Again, thanks for your generous help!

I got rid of FakePCIID.kext and FakePCIID_Intel_HDMI_Audio.kext (fix loss HDMI audio after reboot). I modified AppleALC.kext for device-id 719d0000 (100 Series PCH HD Audio) Who has nuc7 (nuc8?) Check if it works on your configuration
I've been using your patched AppleALC.kext on my NUC7 now for awhile, nice work! I've been looking for where you patched the address in the info.plist so when the kext is updated I can patch it again. There are over 400 entries to look at and I'm not finding one with your signature or the 100 Series PCH HD Audio label. Can you please shed some light?

Do you guys know if our thunderbolt 3 port is able to output 5k resolution on the nuc8i7beh? I'm hearing this requires combining 2 DP port signal over thunderbolt, which only some macbook pros and iMacs 5K do. I can't find any success stories on our NUC8i7BEH, my guess is it will only do 4K, about to pull the trigger for a LG uktrafine 5K.

Thanks in advance.

Installation icon does not appear in Chameleon boot logo.

I inserted the file to USB as an EFI file.

Upgrading from Mojave to Catalina and using the above EFI is no problem.

There is no installation icon when making a recovery USB.
Only the window icon is displayed.

Trying to modify the EFI file does not work.

Please resolve it. Thank you.

Hello, can you please clarify what you are asking? Are you really using the Chameleon boot loader or did you mean to say Clover? Are you saying there is no option to boot the recovery partition? Have you checked terminal to see if you have a partition installed?

Open Terminal app from /Applications/Utilities and type the following command:

diskutil list

If unzipping CATNUC8EFI to the EFI partition of the USB flash drive, it doesn't boot (no icon). I used an older version and updated CLOVER to make it work. CATNUC8EFI works fine when unzipped to the EFI partition of the hard drive, though. Thanks for your great work, NUC works flawlessly :)

So you figured it out?

Not really. I haven't figured out why the new version doesn't boot from USB, I've simply gone for a quick workaround. Since the new version works fine when installed to the SSD, all's good.

As a footnote: the old version with updated CLOVER doesn't work properly. I noticed that the screen freezes for a short period of time every couple of seconds when App Store is opened. No problem while installing, though, and not an issue because the new version has been working perfectly from SSD so far.

I would reinstall Clover to the USB drive using the latest version making sure that the same drivers are reinstalled and that it is set for booting UEFI at the very top of the options in clover customization.
