pastrychef's Asus ROG Strix Z370-G Gaming (WI-FI AC) build w/ i9-9900K + AMD 6600 XT

Oh awesome. Thanks for the clarification.

You can check if you've done it correctly by using IORegistryExplorer and looking at the XHC section:

OpenCore was running fine for me. I had switched to using it exclusively on my Z370.

Hi PastryChef, I really like to know if there are big benefits while using opencore? Currently, I like the stability I became with all the effort you made in the past for us. Do you already be that far that you recommend switching to OpenCore? Saw lately a youtube where somebody claimed that 3D graphics with gaming was significantly faster.

It's not that there are any "benefits" to OpenCore over Clover. Currently, Clover runs great and this build runs absolutely fantastically.

The problem is that the guys behind things like Lilu, WhateverGreen, AppleALC, etc will no longer be supporting Clover with future releases. All their efforts are going towards OpenCore. This means that if/when new fixes are needed for future versions of macOS, they will probably be more readily available for OpenCore.

Here's their official statement:

Hi @pastrychef

I write here as you've this thread and have come across lots of things.
I have an issue on an Asus Prime Z370-A II and Final Cut Pro.
It's not about rendering, that works great as everything else but one thing:
The issue is memory related. Basically Final Cut Pro consumes huge amounts of memory.
Even just importing video files into a library, for example 60GB of files, you easily get Final Cut Pro to use 140GB of memory. Once that begins to happen obviously the app and the system begin to become unresponsive.

On my Asus Rog Strix Z370-I Gaming if I import the same type of files (Sony Alpha) it's all fine and smooth. FCPX takes 800MB of Ram.
I tested a different MacOS Mojave installation but the issue is still there.
It's some sort of memory leaking and the app becomes unusable after a while.

Have you ever come across any similar issue in Mojave?
Could it be a Bios version?

Thanks a lot.

Hi Pastrychef, thanks for sharing your opencore EFI. I have been trying to get opencore going and haven't had much luck. I have tried following the vanilla guide and tools that build an EFI. In most cases the boot is stuck at the following:
OCS: Aborting corrupted config.plist file access OC: Failed to load configuration!

With yours, it progresses further but then I have a kernel panic. See attached.

Any ideas?

I doubt it's a configuration or BIOS issue. This sounds 100% like a software issue.

Have you come across the following two threads:

I still haven't even attempted to get OpenCore working on my Z390 motherboard...

I have found OpenCore to be very unforgiving in terms of using configurations from different systems/motherboards. I am also anticipating a good deal of difficulty configuring OpenCore for my Z390 which is why I've been dragging my feet...

I have no idea why your system had difficulty loading configuration. When dealing with OpenCore, remember that any changes in kexts will probably require changes to the config.plist. Also, if/when you edit your config.plist, make sure to use either Xcode or Plist Edit Pro.

Thanks for your reply.
I had run into those threads. Unluckily they don't come to a definite answer.
Thing is on other motherboards, with the same MacOS version, same FCPX version the process runs without issues.
I'll do a fresh install, fresh FCPX and see if it has any issues.
