pastrychef's Asus ROG Strix Z370-G Gaming (WI-FI AC) build w/ i9-9900K + AMD 6600 XT

Hey all,

Thanks once again for everything on this thread, it's awesome, super happy with this so far, sleep seems to be a little flakey but I'll keep playing with that, no biggie really for me.

Only one question remaining for me, do you think this CPU being unknown is a problem? It's an i9-9900k

The unknown CPU thing is strictly cosmetic. If you google around, you can find instructions on how change it to say anything you want. It's really meaningless so I never bothered to address it. If/when Apple starts selling computers with this CPU, it will change to a proper name.

Also, please update you profile to include CPU, motherboard, and GPU info.

So ghosting my harddrive from my macbook to the SSD for hackintosh worked. I'm now in. At current, it is only seeing 32 gigs of my ram (i have 64gb installed) (which im sure i can correct by changing it from thinking its an imac), and i don't have working sound. In multibeast, which sound card do i need to select for on-board audio?

Edit: it doesn't look like im going to get that far yet.
When trying to install Multibeast it fails. The installer log reads

sudo newfs_msdos -v EFI -F 32 /dev/rdisk0s1

It sounds like you have a very early version of BIOS. Later versions fix the RAM issue.

If you are using my EFI folder, you won't need to install anything from MultiBeast. If you use MultiBeast with my EFI folder, it will cause conflicts because I keep my kexts in /EFI/CLOVER/kexts/Other/ and MultiBeast installs to /Library/Extensions/.

Choose one guide to follow. Don't mix and match bits and pieces from multiple guides. It will only cause more problems.

So i don't need MultiBeast at all?

How do i get audio to work? Right now the system doesn't see a sound card.

As for BIOS. I'll reboot and see if i can update it. Stand by.

If you are using my EFI folder, don't use MultiBeast.

Open /EFI/CLOVER/config.plist with Clover Configurator. Then try changing Audio ID to 1 or 3.

I updated Bios. This gave me 64Gb of Ram. Audio is now working, but its only coming out of the right side. I checked the audio options, and it is set to the center. If i pan to the left, I have no audio. If i use my mixer (attached to the 3/8th jack out of the back of the mobo) and pan to the left, I have no audio. It appears that the right and center channels are working correctly, however. When running a stereo audio file, I'm not getting any of the left channel sound. (so the system isn't monoing the audio and sending it to the right channel (which i wouldnt want it to do anyway)

When using Colver Configurator, Audio ID is currently set to 1.

The system will not directly boot from my HD, I need to use my thumbdrive to boot in to clover to boot in to OSX. Am I right in assuming that any changes I make to the clover configuration on the EFI partition of the HD aren't going in to effect since its booting from the USB stick?

I also noticed that if I boot with my main monitor attached to the HDMI and my second monitor attached to the DVI port on the motherboard, the second monitor cuts out during boot, and the main monitor goes fuzzy with black lines after about 30 seconds post boot. If i, however, boot with just the HDMI monitor, then plug the second one in after boot, it works for the remainder of the boot. In clover config (on both the Mac HD EFI and the USB EFI), the system is set to iMac 18,1

I have never heard of audio only coming out of one channel and not the other on Z370. Either audio is working or it's not. Make sure your speakers are connected to the green connector on the back. Make sure your audio cables are good.

If you boot Clover from your USB flash drive, only the settings on the USB flash drive will take affect.

If you boot Clover from your HD/SSD, only the settings on the HD/SSD will take affect.

Even after you have everything working right, it is recommended to keep your USB flash drive around in the event of an emergency and something goes wrong with your HD/SSD, you will still be able to boot.

I have never tried multi monitors on IGPU. You may have to patch the frame buffers to get multi monitor working right. Please see this guide on frame buffer patching. iMac18,1 is correct if you are using IGPU only.

Doh, I figured it out, it was in my mixer

Is there something special i need to do to make Clover boot from my SSD. Right now it fails and defaults in to bios settings. I feel like i missed a step here.

I will reference the guide and report back. The issue is on boot only.

Currently it works, but only since i plugged the DVI connector in after boot.
