[Guide] Intel NUC7/NUC8 using Clover UEFI (NUC7i7Bxx,NUC8i7Bxx,etc)

hello rehabman. what about the performance about the ssd on you nuc7i7dnhe ? mine is samsung sm951 on my nuc7i7dnhe , the sm951 is very slow on both win10 and mac 10.14.2, the read speed is about 1500MB/S and the write speed is 700MB/s . i am not sure if the bios limites the performance .

Hello @RehabMan

I've set up Mojave on my NUC7i3BNH and everything works perfectly. Great work.

The only inconvenience I'm having is with displays. A fresh install defaults to the 1080p setting, but that setting looks very uncrisp and misaligned on my 4k TV (via HDMI 2.0). If I set the setting to 3840x2160 (4k) the picture is very crisp and perfectly aligned with the corners of my TV. However, everything appears pretty tiny. Is there a way to display the picture in 4k, but have everything appear bigger (like display scaling setting in Windows)?

Thanks in advance.
Hi!

Are Bluetooth and wifi working fine? I have a NUC7I3BNH and bluetooth and wifi not are working.

You should disable bluetooth in BIOS and then use a bluetooth dongle. Works for me

On another note, I have a question about the SMBIOS. I have a serial number that shows up in system info, and in the RT variables in CC (not sure where it was generated, and I assume from the post install scripts) that is a unique SN (tested on the apple service site), however, when I load my config.plist into Clover Config., there are no entries other than Mac type in the SMBOIS section.

Now, here's the thing, everything works fine! BT, WiFi, airdrop, store, etc.

So do I need to follow a guide to populate the SMBIOS section, or should I leave well enough alone?
Does your ssd works at high performance ? Mine is very slow ,only half perfornance sm951

Thanks for the guide, RehabMan! Got my NUC7i3BNH working fine this past weekend with Mojave.

I do this tutorial for NUC7i7BNH but it didn´t work with MacOS Mojave 10.14.3
When i wanted to boot from my SSD i ran in this error "failed to get apfs volume keybag, err = 2"
Can me help someone with this problem?

Thanks to Rehabman for this guide, the results are better than I was hoping for.

The only issue I have with this after using it for a couple of months is that sometimes after waking from sleep I do not get an image from HDMI.

I know the NUC doesn't crash because it can be accessed from the network.
Also it only happens when waking from sleep, if I power off/power on I can boot normally.

Am I the only one with this issue and does anybody have any clues on how to resolve it?

Anybody have any luck installing a M.2 (22x42 or 22x80) Wifi / Bluetooth card in a NUC8i5BEH (no mini PCIe Slot).
I saw this question come up a lot but it doesn't look like anybody tried it, so I went ahead and took the plunge. It doesn't look like there are any M.2 cards that fit the B+M slot in the NUC (most are A/E style), so I went with this native BCM94360CS2:

Along with this adapter:

Good news:
WiFi works OOB with no additional kexts or patches, and works perfectly on Windows once the Broadcom drivers are installed - I got them from this thread:

Bad news:
Bluetooth requires a connection to one of the internal USB headers to work. However, there are two issues:
  1. Current USBInjectAll.kext in this guide doesn't include these headers
  2. No cable currently exists that can connect the adapter to the internal USB header (the adapter looks to be a 2-pin JST SH connector, the NUC USB header is a 4-pin Molex PicoBlade connector)
First issue can likely be fixed pretty easily by modifying the DSDT, but as for the second issue, I scoured the internet and couldn't find anything even close to a solution. As a last resort I contacted some factories in China and found one that would accept a contract to custom build this cable with a minimum order of 100 cables (most wanted a minimum order of 500). I've put in an order and production should be starting soon, but it'll take anywhere from 2-8 weeks depending on manufacturing and shipping time. If the cable actually works I'll use one and put the remaining 99 on eBay or something.

For now, I'm using the BCM94360CS2 for WiFi and using the built-in Intel chip for Bluetooth. Bluetooth only works if I boot into Windows first, then soft reboot into MacOS. Because the Intel Bluetooth module isn't well supported there are some issues (e.g. computer hangs on sleep) but otherwise everything works fine - Continuity, iMessage, AirDrop, etc. all work flawlessly.

I'll update everyone when I receive the custom cables and test them out.
