pastrychef's Asus ROG Strix Z370-G Gaming (WI-FI AC) build w/ i9-9900K + AMD 6600 XT

I have an MSI RX 560 in my test system and it works very well. You should not have any problems with it.

If I look to these results there is no real disadvantage to choose for this Vega64. Sure its a little slower but has better minimum frame rates in return (in battlefield 1). Especially using my hack for 90% in macOS mode instead of windows I'm convinced to make the switch. Lets hope the buyer will buy this nvidia crap ;-)

The biggest disadvantages to that particular Vega 64 are (1) it uses a custom cooler so fan control will be entirely controlled by the video card firmware and (2) it's a triple slot card which means it will block an extra PCI-e slot. If you are comfortable with these points, it seems like a great card.

Hello guys,
In the BIOS settings:
Advanced / System Agent (SA) Configuration / Graphics Configuration / Primary Display - PCIE
for those who use me, just the Intel UHD630 graphics, the settings should be different, I think.

Ah yes. I'll edit that later.

Are you sure? I thought Sapphire was always 100% native supported. Or is that the pulse series? On the other hand the temps are well controlled (70degrees Celsius). I have Full ATX mainboard so I have room for it. Don't plan to put in anything else as maybe M2 + Wifi

Vega GPUs are natively supported by macOS.
Vega cards with "reference" style coolers can have fans controlled by macOS.
macOS can not control the fans on Vega cards with custom coolers.

This means that if you choose a Vega with a custom cooler, don't expect the Vega fan fix kexts to work. The fans will be entirely controlled by the cards' firmware. In some cases, this can mean fans that spin faster than necessary.

Perhaps a stupid question for the day - how does one know if the coolers are proprietary or reference?

Here are what the reference coolers look like:

So, this, then would be more of a 'reference' card: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07DH7S1X1/?tag=tonymacx86com-20

Whereas this would not be: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0782PSHJ3/?tag=tonymacx86com-20

Does the current kext for these settle the fans, or, will they always be an issue? Are there any other "gotchas" with the non-reference cooled cards?

I ask because I am contemplating switching out the 1070 for an AMD Vega 64 for better compatibility reasons.

Correct. I am currently using this card.

Correct.

The kexts fix the fan behavior on the Vegas. I have tested in High Sierra and Mojave public beta. We can't predict the future, but I don't anticipate any problems.

Again, I have been very happy with my decision to switch from a GTX 1080 to a Vega. Everything has been very smooth since my transition.

Also, here's a link that may help better explain what a reference card is:

Have you documented what you did for config reasons when you switched?
