I have a very similar build, but im using a 1070 card which causes me a lot of issues. However, do you recommend if I start from scratch to reinstall the OS, would this help with my situation. The problem I am facing now, is the infinity loop on startup if I use the latest nvidia driver. However, I would not have this problem if I use the 106 driver.
Troubleshoot, more I cannot recommend. The 106 drivers are clearly not meant for 10.13.4 and if used could cripple functionality in other areas that will only surface later when it is perhaps too late, who knows ?
I have always tried avoiding hacking with major software components/drivers that are clearly not meant for the OS version I am busy hacking to tow the line for me :) Signing off now.
Cheers

I tried everything from differrent kexts to different config.plist settings to different BIOS settings to clean install. Nothing worked for me except using the .104 drivers.

Believe me. I really, really wanted my old GTX 1080 to work right but with several releases of Nvidia web drivers and no resolution, I just sold my GTX 1080 and replaced it with a Vega 56. Everything's been smooth as silk since, albeit with a bit more fan noise.

Interesting how Intel Power Gadget reacts to the lag :
According to wikipedia 'Explicit synchronization between GPU and CPU' is one of several reasons why Metal should have better performance than OpenGL

Pastrychef, I'm right behind you. same story w/ GTX 1070. Just ordered a RX580 Nitro this AM. Any tips you might offer up in making the switch to AMD for the 10.13.4 user? I'm sure this would make a great new thread if you're up for sharing your experience.

It was amazingly simple.

With an Nvidia card still installed in my system (still running macOS 10.13.3 at the time),
  1. Uninstalled Nvidia web drivers.
  2. Uninstalled Cuda.
  3. Opened my config.plist with Clover Configurator.
  4. Enabled RadeonDeInit.
  5. Shut down.
  6. Swapped video cards.
  7. Boot up.

Now, with macOS 10.13.4, we don't even need to enable RadeonDeInit. The RX 500-series and Vega cards are just plug and go.

When the majority users do not experience any lags there is nothing to alert people of in the buyers guide.

Are you saying someone has 10.13.4 running on a Pascal graphics card properly with the latest drivers? I've not seen a single report of this working without downgrading drivers. I cannot even downgrade as my machine glitches and freezes after waking from sleep with the older *.104 drivers.

Hello
Having lag opening and closing tabs on macOS 10.13 and last versions of Nvidia drivers, more noticeable while closing tabs on safari
currently on 10.13.4 and last version of drivers 387.10.10.10.30.103 but lag still persist
this lag doesn't happen with default osx drivers, they have other graphics problem though so I need Nvidia ones like everyone
my card gtx 970 and i76700k on Asus z170a

I see many people having lag too
any patched solution for this issue?

thanks in advance

Sounds simple enough.

On my system I added a few kexts and DSDT PATCHes to enable my onboard Intel iGPU.
Do you think I should remove them? Do I need this with the RX580 on 10.13.4?

Here is what I added to "Config.plist" for the iGPU:

shiki.kext
Lilu.kext
IntelGraphicsFixup.kext
NvidiaGraphicsFixup.kext
FAKEPCIID.kext
FakePCIID_Intel_HD_Graphics.kext

HECI -> IMEI Patch
Comment: change HECI to IMEI
Find* [Hex]: 48454349
Replace [Hex]: 494d4549

GFX0 -> IGPU Patch
Comment: change GFX0 to IGPU
Find* [Hex]: 47465830
Replace* [Hex] : 49475055

PEGP -> GFX0 Patch
Comment: change PEGP to GFX0
Find* [Hex]: 50454750
Replace [Hex]: 47465830

Thanks for your input. Sorry if it's inappropriate for this thread.

You should leave all of that with maybe the exception of FakePCIID_Intel_HD_Graphics.kext. I don't think that's needed if you are using the IGPU headlessly.
