How to build your own iMac Pro [Successful Build/Extended Guide]

An odd question, but is there a native supported RAID controller that has an SAS connection that works under macOS? ie, it doesn't need drivers now or in the future?

It would be a really perfect "Pro" set up with the iMac Pro guide in this thread. I guess TB3 RAID is another option...but so pricey.

Well I will soon come up with this 10GB NAS RAID-5 solution:

1x TS-431X2
4x 12TB Seagate IronWolf (Raid 5)
2x ASUS XG-C100C
1x Netgear XS505M
1x CAB-10GSFP-P3M-Netgear
2x Ugreen 11270 STP 10 Gigabyte 600 Mhz Cat7 RJ45 Ethernet Cable

maybe that helps...

Thats really sad to read! His posts were really helpful.

Yes , when a forum loses a major contributor it's really a big loss for the whole community. I don't understand the aggro, really awful

I own a rocketRaid 2780A (yeah, I'm that one guy). It works great for spinning disks, SAS or SATA but don't support TRIM and is not recommended for SSDs. Just my luck, I can add 24 drives but they all have to be spinners. You cannot boot off it.

All the ATTO cards have better support, they are probably the best supported mac cards out there. Lastly, ARECA cards are supported on the mac. The big daddy of all RAID cards for the mac is the areca ARC-1883ix24-287 at $1100+ 6 internal SAS, 1 external.

BTW, I use SoftRAID so I can mix drives from my 2780A with drives connected to the motherboard.

Raid is so passé. Just another expensive middle man waiting to do proprietary mash ups . Sorry , I went zfs when Sierra didn't accept my highpoint raid drivers anymore .

I have seen this before with USB - Try this :

Shut down.
Remove the power cable from the computer.
Press and hold the ON button for 30 seconds.
Release the ON button.
Reconnect the power cable.
Power on and test.
Thank you for the help! Unfortunately it didn’t work and I think USB ports are burned :(

RAID 5 becomes unstable with drives larger than 2TB. Odds are high that you will lose a second drive before the array is rebuilt after the first failure. RAID 10 and RAID 1 are still very useful for redundancy.

I always preferred RAID 6 or RAID 10.

I had a 24TB Dell server going a while back and we upgraded to 10GbE. I might have to get a NAS and 10GbE like the ones @kgp posted and tuck it away in the closet since drives are so much bigger now.

I would have preferred TB3 Lacie Big Disk or something but the expense ....:(

Ask for replacement... Did you buy at Amazon? If so, there should not be any problem with the replacement..

can anybody confirm if they boot with a disc unplugged from a SATA port on this motherboard then when they plug such disc to the SATA port the disc is not recognized even if they have switched on Hot Swap in the Bios?
This way I know it's not just me...
Thanks everyone in advance!!

@kgp
Would the patch to turn SATA hard disk into external hard disc work to fix this issue?
Do you remember where it is on this thread?
