Hello, I have just built a new PC and would like to put on High Sierra. However, I am experiencing a lot of issues. I tried to watch a lot of YouTube video's and read tutorials but for some reason my PC doesn't like it...

The problem I am getting at the moment is that my USB drive boots up with EFI. However, in the EFI it will not find my USB for "Install macOS High Sierra" and with it not finding this I cannot enter the installation.

I have tried installing to the USB with UniBeast and Terminal. However, no luck. BIOS settings are set as it says in the tutorials, and it's a genuine copy of macOS from Apple.

PC Specs:

Asus Prime Z370-P Motherboard
Intel Core i7-8700 3.2GHz
Palit GeForce GTX 1060 6GB
8GB RAM
TP Link - TL - WN881ND

500GB HDD
(My SSD has Windows installed so using that as separate drive)

If anyone has had this problem before please could you help?

You can try replacing the EFI folder in the EFI partition of your USB flash drive installer with my EFI folder... It's linked at the bottom of here.

Hi PastyChef - I tried that but no luck :/

Hmm... I'm surprised... When you boot in verbose mode, where does it stop? Have you triple checked your BIOS settings (including XHCI handoff/USB Keyboard and Mouse Simulator setting)?

Hi pastrychef. OP states in his initial post #1
The problem I am getting at the moment is that my USB drive boots up with EFI. However, in the EFI it will not find my USB for "Install macOS High Sierra" and with it not finding this I cannot enter the installation.

I suspect the word "EFI" here is probably incorrectly used to refer to "Clover Boot Manager" screen and OP is unable to find the "High Sierra installer disk icon" as expected to be seen in CBM screen to boot and reach the installation screen to perform the partition and formatting of the target disk. We know EFI cannot contain High Sierra installer.

If that is true, I am wondering whether OP failed to get a full macOS High Sierra Installer file or had a corrupt installation .

In the USB, the 208MB EFI partition has only EFI Folder with CLOVER and its subfolders and config.plist. The macOS Installer file of ~ 5+GB in the second larger partition comes from the macOS Installer downloaded to Application Folder and if it is not in full size (the notorious 19MB download) or corrupted during install , the Installer disk acts just a CLOVER Bootloader disk with no OS installer files and therefore incapable of performing Partition and Format or installing other system files into the disk. This is my theory! No proof for anything I said from the post.

A CBM screen shot will be helpful.

Checking the USB installer in a Mac or Hack by opening its contents and seeing with ShowAllFiles software or Terminal cmd will show why it is behaving this way.

One other possible issue that just came to mind... At least some Z370 motherboard users have reported that they were unable to boot properly with RAM installed in the slots recommended in the motherboards' manuals when two sticks of RAM were being used. Instead, they had to use the alternate slots.

I have the High Sierra installed to the usb through Terminal and then clover makes a partition called EFI.

When input the USB and boot UEFI SanDisk it loads the clover boot loader and can only find the NTFS drives meaning my SSD with Windows installed. (I’m hopeing to install MacOS on a spare hard drive)

Not sure as to why it isn’t working

  • This is a case of the USB Installer with a "no show" at the CBM.
    • The problem is either with the USB port to which the USB installer is attached or the BIOS Options for USB ports.
    • Please list the USB ports enabled in the BIOS.
    • Please tell us what version of USB is your USB installer and
    • which port it is trying to boot from? [USB 3.1/3.0/2]
    • Can you see USB installer in the BIOS Boot Option Priorities?
Edited to include:

It is good idea to disconnect all Windows Disks from the MoBo and keep only target disk for HS attached and powered.
Similarly disconnected all devices Except USB installer, Keyboard and Mouse from USB ports during installation to reduce clutter and confusion and simplify macOS Installation.
