You can - but you will be tying up 16 lanes and only using 4.

@dwithla, once more! I do not have any other 16 lane PCIe card!!!! I just have one 16 lane GPU!!! Am I allowed to use my Thunderbolt EX 3 in the empty 16 lane slot without receiving your totally obsolete criticism? If I don't use the Thunderbolt EX3, which by the way does not fit into a 4 lane Slot!!!!!, the 16 lane slot will remain anyway unpopulated! So please.. what for this never ending discussion?

My BIOS is 0802 also. No SATA ports disabled as per my slot allocation above.

Good! And I have the same board with 0802 and the SATA slots get disabled when using the above mentioned PCIe slots. I cannot do anything against this fact!

Sheesh. Use your stuff however you like. Its your CPU. BTW there is no such thing as a 4-lane slot. Only a 16x slot running with 4 lanes available - eg PCIEX16_2 - pretty sure your Thunderbolt card (identical to mine) will fit there.

You should RA your board then - it is clearly faulty.

BTW guys
Do you have LiveDash working?
(little screen on our PrimeDeluxe motherboard)

I didn't watch/tried that before
until today - I tried to turn it on in Windows or Bios,
everything seems to be OK but ... still black
didn't work at the CPU temp place.

Have a nice day :D

ufff to make it clear! My ThunderboltEX 3 does neither fit into PCIEX1_1 nor PCIEX1_2 ! It just fits into PCIEX16_1, PCIEX16_2, PCIEX16_3 and PCIEX16_4! Many thanks that you allow me to use it in PCIEX16_3 as I do not have any additional 16 lane card to use the latter slot! My OSX WIFI card is in PCIEX16_2... Full stop..

And the mobo of @rudey is also faulty? Instead of a RA, I will rather try a BIOS reset instead, which might be anyway a good idea after replacing the i7-7800X by the i9-7980XE...

Thanks for your efforts..

You have my Skylake-X/X299 macOS High Sierra 10.13 Desktop Guide, so what could happen? ;)

I am sure you will be able to manage! And you know I am always here to support! ;)

I would directly go for macOS High Sierra 10.13 , which works absolutely stable and flawless and is fully functional!

a.) I would also directly go for the ASUS Prime X299 Deluxe if you can!

b.) Note that both i7-7800X (6 cores) and i7-7820X (8 cores) just have 28 PCIe 3.0 lanes! By investing a little bit more money, you would get a Skylake-X processor with 44 PCIe 3.0 lanes and also more cores: e.g. i9-7900X (10 cores) or i9-7920X (12 cores).

I am totally in love with Skylake-X/X299!!!:p It is simply amazing!!!! :headbang:

Time to say bye-bye to Broadwell-E/EP (Haswell-E/EP) and X99 my friend! :lol::thumbup:

Welcome in this thread

Cheers,

KGP

You have right @kgp ! :D

On monday, I will go for ASUS Prime X299 Deluxe and the i7-7820X 8 core cpu! Memory will be Corsair DDR4 3000 16GB Vengeance LPX CL15 KIT for now, later more...

So guys, looks good? Ready to rock?! :D

Hi KGP
I like to buy EVO 960 M2 500GB
Which card you recommended for native support or patched detail.

Thank you.

Do I need to do anything inorder to place my second nvme with windows back in the rig? It's placed near the memory section.
