but is hotpatching better? what are the advantages of hotpatching vs. manually installing the DSDT?

The advantage is that you don't need to re-extract/re-patch when changes are made to BIOS/hardware.
And people with same/similar model can share a hotpatch setup.

hi rehabman,

got it, obviously, with this guide, i was able to install using braveknight's github/repo. but does that mean i can't use another person's DSDT even if we have the same laptop model, if i were to do it manually?

thanks

Exactly.

Even though two laptops are "the same", they may have different hardware (RAM, WiFi, etc), different BIOS version, or different BIOS settings.

I upgraded directly from El Capitan to Sierra, everything works fine except the numberpad stopped working.
Also some gestures isn't working with the touchpad.

Hi everyone,

I'm currently asking for some help after too many attempts to install Sierra without success.
Actually a year ago I managed to install El Capitan on my Z50 using your method but then suddenly I could boot on the OS because it automaticly panic and reboot before I could see anything in verbose.

Anyway I tried to make a clean install with Sierra os from a fresh start. Followed carefully the instructions but still, I have a graphic problem, when I reach the installer, the screen is completely garbled and I can't see anything. I found a trick by using an other screen by HDMI. The installer starts but at the end, reboot with no change and a BIOS message saying : couldn't boot the OS... What could be the problem here ? I used the config_install plist and I'm sure my BIOS setup is good also as my USB bootable device using Rehabman's guide and creatinstallmedia method ( without any trouble ).

Thank's in advance !
