macOS Sierra PB: Need testers for new AMD Radeon drivers!

Thanks for the tip! What does the bundle package include, or mean? Also, the final release of macOS High Sierra is expected to support Vega natively, right? With Metal and all that. I've seen in a few videos that Adobe Premiere even renders faster with AMD-Metal than with NVIDIA-CUDA.

Yes, Vega is working natively in High Sierra without need for lilu and green kexts. The bundle package includes 2 free games (location availability) $100 coupon for Ryzen system, $200 discount on Samsung $900 monitor. So basically two free games if your in the right location or country. If your building a new system then the others will help but most just want the card. This is their effort to curb bit coin miners from buying all the cards at launch.

Wait for vega! That should be the best for Mac OS, it's already working but the gaming 64 and 56 variants will be shipping a week from tomorrow, Monday august 14.

Right now is a bad time to buy AMD Polaris cards, the bit miners have emptied the shelves at local retailers and a RX 580 AIB model is going for $330-$380 (My RX 480 8gb $250 last year). Vega will be $399, $499, $599 for the card alone. Unfortunately, on launch day you need to spend an extra $100 to get the bundle package.

Yeah, cursed bit miners. I would really love to buy a Vega 56 GPU. Sadly, that's going to be almost impossible. At least for a few months.

Anyone with a GA-X99-UD4 (or similar) and an RX 480 have macOS High Sierra up without a helper GPU? I was able to perform the install using a helper card about a week ago but can't get it to boot with just the RX 480. Any direction on config/kexts would be greatly appreciated.

I put the latest lilu and whatevergreen kexts in System/Library/Extensions ran kext wizzard, and also have them in Clover kext folder 12.13. Did you make a new kext folder for 12.13? Clover only comes with 10.12 and other. You can just rename other folder or create a new 12.13 kext folder.

Note: As of Sierra 12.6 no modifications need to be made to kexts or Clover for Polaris cards (in general terms specific brands or port layouts may vary). The only thing that doesn't work is the name R9 xxx. It if you inject ATI or use the Whatevergreen kext combo it names it Radeon Pro 480/575.

Are you getting the 480/575 when using the helper card? If not the kexts may not be working.

Sorry guys...I was out of town and just got back.

To answer the question: Yes, my R9 390X works perfect in my windows system.

I even upgraded to High Sierra today and still can't get this card to run. I ended up going back down to 10.12.6 and using my 2GB GT 740 (bleh)...

So, to recap: I added the most recent Lilu and WhateverGreen kext to my OTHER folder of Clover...rebuilt the permissions....and rebooted. I have also tried some of the more labor intensive (so to speak) suggestions on tonymac and a few youtube videos. Not sure what I am missing. Maybe Lilu and WhateverGreen doesn't support this card yet? Does anyone have the R9 390X working in there system?

Anyway, I am open to more suggestions if anyone has any...??

Thanks again!

Take it easy

J

Did the card work before? Does it need an edit for the ID 0x0000000?

Gigamaxx, pardon my ignorance, I read a lot of your recent posts but still don't get a lot of things.
Let's say you have a clean install with Intel HD. You're about to insert RX 460. What are the steps?
Should you change something in bios, do we need WhateverGreen etc. What are the boot args?

Thank you for your time. You're the best.

It depends on the RX 460, some brands may not work or need fixes. Gigabyte and sapphire are known to work well, XFX 460 is trouble. I picked up a Asus 460 and it works.

For RX 460 with IGPU enabled just plug it in, it will only have Post boot graphics output with IGPU enabled and without the lilu and green kexts. You will either need to use two cables or switch cables between igpu (clover screen), and RX HDMI or DisplayPort. If your monitor has multiple inputs you can connect both cables and use monitor to switch between inputs.

When you get it working, then you can add the lilukext and whatevergreenkext fix.

My setup works with lilu and green kexts in Clover kext folder "Other" and on main drive System/Library/Extensions folder. Run a kext utility like kext wizzard after adding anything or editing the S/L/Extensions folder. After adding the kexts reboot and go to bios (hold delete key on boot) disable igpu then boot with RX 460 as primary display.

Thanks, works flawlessly. Followed your instructions and got VGA listed as Radeon Pro 460 with no iGPU dependency (it was Sapphire brand, btw). Later I also installed Nvidia drivers and now it's listed as Nvidia GTX 1080 Ti for some reason (and games started to work much faster too). Ha-ha, ignore that second part
