Stork's MyHero Build: ASUS ROG Z170 MAXIMUS VIII HERO - i7-6700K - GTX 980

I'm on Bios 3401. No issue with the Nvidia latest driver on my GTX 980TI. HWMonitor working but not showing my H115i pump information. I only have two issues at the moment with my hack and I am working on them. Issue one is sleep which I will sort out with a USB SSDT as soon as I get round to it. Issue two is all my continuity is working except my Apple Watch is not logging me in. It was working but now it is not.

Yeah, I didn't have any problems with my 1070 either. I was just trying to avoid using the fixes with Clover Boot loader. Switching back to 2202 enables the Nvida drivers to stick with Multibeast. I think it's also required for NVMe SSD.

"switching back to 2202 enables the Nvidia drivers to stick with the NVRAM", not MultiBeast. And, no, it's not required for NVMe SSD; they are mutually exclusive.

Hey,

So I'm finally putting together my build, mostly the same parts as this @Stork 's Hero Build and am having an awful time trying to get the coarser H55 to fit the Asus Hero VIII MB. Anyone else having this problem... I managed to get the back plate on, with a little bit of force, but the retention screws do not match up AT ALL. I tried lightly force them in but am afraid this is going to damaged my MB or PSU.

Any Help.

UPDATE: Fixed it.
User Error, the rentension screws can be twisted around on the cooler mount, but still appear to be on correctly, they were all put on slightly twisted making the overall distance between them a little larger. I twisted them all around and perfect fit!!

Greetings,

I followed the build on page 1 and it worked perfectly on a single SSD. I have FCPX and other stuff running fine.

I got my 2 other SSDs into RAID 0 once everything else was taken care of and running.

I wanted more speed for FCPX, I saw storks GENE build with the Samsung 960 PRO, I bought the EVO. I followed the modification of the config.plist but keep getting stuck on:

iMAC.local com.apple.xpc.launchd[1] (org.ntp.sntp.157) ,Warning.: Service exited with abnormal code: 1
busy timeout[0], (240s), kextd wait(0): 'AppleACPICPU'
busy timeout[0], (240s), kextd wait(0): 'AppleACPICPU'
IOConsoleUsers: time(0) 0->0, kub 0 llk 1,
IOConsoleUsers: gIOScreenLockState 3, hs 0 bs 0, now0, sm 0x0

I can still boot to the single SSD install of sierra but I cannot get the USB to boot anymore since I installed the m.2 960 evo 250GB into my ASUS Maximus IIIV Hero.

Googling and its tangents has not yielded fruit as of yet. Thank you guys and gals.

I use exactly the same board and exactly the same NVMe SSD. For me it works flawlessly. Are you sure you exactly followed the instructions in the Gene Build on forum page 1? You have to download (I think it's from RehabMan's repo) the NVMe patches. Then you need to open the corresponding plist for your OS (e.g. 10.12.4) and copy all the contents from KextsToPatch to the array in your Clover config.plist.

Make the following test: Use EFIMounter v3 in order to mount the EFI partition of the medium that isn't working for boot. Open config.plist with Clover configurator and look if all NVMe lines are copied into the correct location, maybe you made a typo. If you want: Copy your config.plist and post it here and I will compare it with mine (that works for the 960 EVO).

EDIT:

My error was in not overriding what was booting first, the USB installer was not booting, the SSDs CLOVER based bootloader came up then I opted to boot from USB.
Once I hit F8 from BIOS and booted straight from USB.
Then from the disk utility I formated the m.2 960 EVO and installed Sierra.
* Using the config.plist found in the bottom of this post. ( I saw it gripe about unknow CPU type etc during the verbose installer output )

EDIT2: Ran into issues where HID legacy issue poped up. Flashing BIOS from 3101 to 3401.... and going to re-install again.
HID: Legacy shim 2
HID: Legacy shim 2
HID: Legacy shim 2
HID: Legacy shim 2

all over the place

EDIT3: Second USB install to m.2 fails to post after all steps multibeast, using same options as STORKs guide, using Clover_v2.4k_r4061 to get Nvidia NVRAM to hold etc. After booting FROM the m.2 960 EVO -v screen goes all wonky and I get the circle with the slash through it.

EDIT4: I may have missed a big section from the GENE build....
:ch:Create your spoofing SSDT using Rehabman's [Guide] HackrNVMeFamily co-existence with IONVMeFamily using class-code spoof. Note: I'm not going to post my SSDT-NVMe-Pcc.aml as you need to learn to create your own SSDT-NVMe-Pcc.aml. However, see my posts Here and RehabMan's response in the next post for the SSDT's parameter for the GENE (and only the VIII GENE motherboard).
:ch: Install the SSDT-NVMe-Pcc.aml in the EFI > EFI > CLOVER > ACPI > patched folder as you did with your processor SSDT. No need to rename the SSDT-NVMe-Pcc.aml.
:ch: Assuming your patch-nvme-master folder is in the your Downloads folder, run the following Terminal commands:
Code (Text):
cd ~/Downloads/patch-nvme-master
./patch_nvme.sh--spoof 10_12_4
:ch: Drag the HackrNVMeFamily-10_12_4.kext from the Downloads/patch-nvme-master/ folder to the Desktop.
:ch: Make sure that only the HackrNVMeFamily-10_12_4.kext is the only kext on your Desktop.
:ch: Run KextBeast and select the /L/E/ folder to put the HackrNVMeFamily-10_12_4.kext. Remove this kext from the Desktop to another folder or your USB drive.

I re-made the installer USB just like the 5+ times before that it worked onto another USB or SSD, I verified that the m.2 960 EVO is being seen; inside the GUI BIOS is shows up and if I try to install windows it shows up as a drive.

I used just the patch part then tried to load in -v and -no nvidia options then tried taking out the CPU line to match Storks config.plist

Neither worked both got me stuck at the previously mentioned

Thanks.

Hello all,

I have just updated my MB BIOS from 2202 to 3401 this way :
  1. Follow #6 on https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/solving-nvidia-driver-install-loading-problems.161256/#Problem6
  2. save your BIOS settings (on USB or paper). I did not and followed the BIOS settings configuration from the first post of this thread and they are always as good as day one.... THANKS AGAIN @Stork
  3. download 3401 BIOS on a USB drive
  4. boot on BIOS and updated BIOS with ASUS EZ Flash (3.11.2 on the manual (french version))
  5. automatic reboot.......... this one is quite long, be patient
  6. boot on Clover. My build was stuck on the beginning of the progress bar... normal, my BIOS settings were deleted. Force reboot.
  7. boot on BIOS and re-apply BIOS setting (and for my my OC settings)
  8. reboot and done :-D
For the time being everything seems nominal.

Hi everyone, and thank you Stork for the wonderful build! I was able to install this within a couple hours. Just one issue - I'm having trouble with wake after sleep. Usually after waking from sleep, even if it's wake from monitor sleeping, the system becomes very very slow and unusuable. Sometimes, it just freezes completely, and I have to hold down the power button to reset. I've followed every instruction in the guide to a T, is there something I might be overlooking? Thank you.

Well I am back to ground zero. Mine got hit hard by lightning and lost the board. Asus of course wont replace. Should I step down to a lower priced model or get a refurbed one like mine? How is the hero compared to mine. In case it doesn't show mines a Maximus viii extreme

Did you get the built in wifi working on the extreme? If not, there's one reason not to repurchase a stratospherically priced motherboard. The Maximus Gene and Hero hackintoshers all seem to be happy with their builds--including myself.
