I know astewie9226 has gotten it working but I am having some difficulty.
I have tried with both BIOS F20 and F21 running and following the instructions provided by Gigabyte. This is what I ran http://download.gigabyte.us/FileList/Utility/mb_utility_thunderbolt-fw_z170x-ug.zip for the upgrade.
Even in windows under Device manager I don't see a reference to Thunderbolt. So I don't think it's Mac OSX issue.
https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/success-sierra-build-mini-guide-to-get-thunderbolt-3-working.214799 My thunderbolt bios options seem to be different, for example I can't find the legacy option. I'll post a screen shot of my bios options later today or tomorrow.
Hoping someone here has faced a similar issue.
**Solved **
Gigabytes instructions were a bit vague. After running the setup tool from the above zip, navigate to C:\program files (x86)\GIGABYTE\flashTBT and run the file "flashTBT_100.exe" This is the actual upgrade tool than you shutdown and unplug the power cord for 30 seconds. https://www.******.com/r/buildapc/comments/5metzw/help_for_those_trying_to_update_gigabyte/
I can confirm SanLink2 with apple thunderbolt 3 to thunderbolt 2 adapter works.
