Installing GT610 in 10.11.6 but keeping support for HD530

Got the GT 730, but this doesn't look good: plugged it into the second slot, tried to boot without changing anything so that I booted with the HD530 (BIOS set to use internal graphics at boot time), but when the boot progress bar reaches slightly more than the half, it reboots.

So I set the BIOS to use the secondary PCIE slot for booting... and same results!! (reset at about the same point).

So I thought it would need the webdrivers, booted disabling NVIDIA and installed the correct webdrivers for my 10.11.6 build number. Reboot, and, bang, reset at the same point.

In case this was a Fermi (it's a Kepler, but let's suppose it might be a Fermi), I booted with NVIDIA injecting... no way, reset at the same point.

What could I try next?

Disable IGP in your bios and try booting

Thanks a lot for your prompt reply, slim.jim!! I finally got it working, the reason for the failure was that I forgot to add the nvda_drv=1 boot setting. I was already disabling IGP from the BIOS, so that wasn't the cause.

It detects it as GT 730, with 4GB, so I'm pretty happy right now, because I was somewhat scared for a few minutes :D

Anyway, I notice something strange: Webdrivers seem to be required (as the only way for nor crashing in the middle of booting has been to add "nvda_drv=1"). However, if I click on the NVIDIA icon that just appeared at the menu bar, I see that I'm currently using the default OS X drivers instead of the web drivers (that icons lets you choose what drivers to use).

So, if I'm using the default Apple drivers, the GT 730 works OOB, but, for some reason, I cannot boot without the web drivers installed... does this make any sense?

What is says in the menu bar drop down is dependent on NVRAM support. It is looking for the nvda_drv=1 to be stored in the boot-args variable in NVRAM. If you don't have native NVRAM support then you can emulate it. To see what drivers you are actually using type this into terminal:

sudo kextstat | grep nv

If you see "Web" at the end of the kext listed then you are using the Web Drivers regardless of what the menu bar says.

Yes, the three entries end with "Web". So, it seems the GT 730 does require web drivers.

BTW, is there anyway I can see the GPU temp? I installed HWSensors from MultiBeast when I installed ElCapitan. I just reinstalled it from the hwsensors website in order to be sure that I have the latest version (6.23.1417). The one that came with MultiBeast was older, 6.18.something. None of these versions show GPU temps for me.

At /Library/Extensions/ I have the following files:
ACS6x.kext
ATTOCelerityFC8.kext
ATTOExpressSASHBA2.kext
ATTOExpressSASRAID2.kext
ArcMSR.kext
CalDigitHDProDrv.kext
EnergyDriver.kext
FakeSMC.kext
FakeSMC_ACPISensors.kext
FakeSMC_CPUSensors.kext
FakeSMC_GPUSensors.kext
FakeSMC_LPCSensors.kext
HighPointIOP.kext
HighPointRR.kext
PromiseSTEX.kext
SoftRAID.kext
realtekALC.kext

Given that the card is passively cooled, it could be interesting to read its temperature (if it can be done).

I don't use HW Monitor but I'm pretty sure the sensor kext are supposed to go inside a plugins folder in the FakeSMC.kext.

For those that are curious, i have had SUCCESS with a GT 710 OOB so no drivers needed, and using the integrated HD 530 graphics. I literally plugged in the card and banm it booted no problem, now i have 4 awesome displays working even VGA. 1 HDMI from integrated and 3 from the 710, VGA, HDMI and DVI to their own displays. I tried using another integrated port for a 5th but its inconsistent(works some boots, crashes others).
