My SSD conked out on my 5 year old hackintosh, and I can't find my Logic Pro 9 CD's (I use the hackitosh for music production).

So I wanted to ask: Based on my computer specs (below),

1. Should I install Snow Leopard and get another copy of Logic Pro 9 (I heard this combo was quite stable and fast)?

Or

2. Should I get Logic Pro X and install one of the new versions of OS X (If so- which OS X would work best with Logic Pro X?)

----------

My build specs:
My Build: Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R - i7-950 3.2GHz - Gigabyte HD 6870 1GB - 500GB Samsung SSD + 1TB Samsung HDD (for OSX), 500GB Samsung SSD + 1TB Samsung HDD (for Win 7)

----------

Many thanks for any help! Hoping to finally get back into music again

Lets have a look at both options quickly.

How easily can you get Logic Pro 9 and at what price? Logic Pro 9 will work with 32 bit plug ins that you also have - Logic Pro X is strictly 64 bit.

Your hardware will install and run Yosemite, El Capitan or Sierra. Which versions of these do you have in your purchased history at the App Store? Only Sierra is available if you have not previously used your Apple id to download any of the older versions.

Have a look at the music section within the forum:

Thank you Adrian for your reply and questions to help me figure out which version is best.

Here are my answers:

1. Not sure where/if I can get Logic 9- I had bought it previously but can't find the installation CD's, not sure how easy it is to purchase.

To clarify, I mostly record vocals, compose with keyboard and guitar, but I'm also hoping I'll be able to sync Logic to my MPC 2000XL, which I heard is very difficult.
Not sure if one version of Logic is better over any other for linking an MPC 2000XL.

Not sure if I used any 32-bit plugins. (I'm not a very advanced user of Logic)

2. Regarding which OS's I've used my Apple ID to buy and install, I've only ever bought Snow Leopard, and for that I got CD's (or maybe I bought Mountain Lion? It was 2011 so I can't remember).

Does Sierra run well with Logic Pro X?

If anything, could I use a friends Apple ID to download a different version of OS X? I believe my girlfriend's Mac has Yosemite, so her purchase history should have that OS.

Once again, many thanks for your help!

I lost my mac and all installs once did not have the serial number for logic 9 or final cut 6 (but I did have emails of the tech and registration) I called apple, and they didn't have a way to download a copy, but he gave me "new serial" and told me to find it on line (be careful where)that the serials are what is important..,,,,so if you have you original serials great if not try to ask apple you may get lucky who knows.
Tip, for future I keep all my serials on doc in 4 different cloud drives, two pc's, 13 pairs of underwear when its goes black
your gonna wish you had two :)
