Hi everyone I'm on a GA-Z97X-UD5H board, GTX980. iMac15,1 profile. Nothing in Clover kexts outside of AppleIntel1000e, FakeSMC, lspcidrv and VoodooPS2Controller. Boot args are nvda_drv=1 and kext-dev-mode=1.

Sierra installs easily and has no issues until I open the Photos app for the first time, after which I get about 20-40 usable seconds of desktop before the machine fully reboots. This continues to happen after logging in again whether I have the Photos app open or not. It also happens whether I upgrade or install fresh on the system.

Any thoughts or anyone having similar experiences? I set Clover to not reboot on a kernel panic and the reboot seems to indicate that it's not KP related.

Great link - thank you. I tried all suggestions and unfortunately am in the same place. I do see that VT job kick off but neither the CPU nor the memory seem to take much of a hit (20% max and 50% used, respectively). Any other thoughts?

I have updated my bios to F9b which accelerated my boot time into my problem after logging in :)

I too have the same issue.
Sierra worked fine until I turned on Photos. I was able to stop restarting loop by deleting Photos library from Pictures folder though. The system and Photos were working fine when I built a new library. I thought I resolve the issue until I imported a bunch of pictures and videos. Then the issue came back. Still trying to figure out a way to fix this. Did Time Machine recovery at least 10 times in the past couple night.

What is meant by 'remove your photos library from its current location?' as the only known fix? If the reboot comes on facial detection, won't any library cause the same issue?
I think he meant that's the only way to stop endless restarting. We don't get to use photos app though.

I am seriously considering getting a new motherboard and even go for a new build.

I had been using Gigabyte Z97MX - Gaming 5 motherboard and was having nothing but problems with it. OS would crash constantly when waking from sleep and this Photos issue was also bothering me a lot. I then switched to an Asus motherboard (H97M-Plus) and have not had a single problem. Computer wakes from sleep every single time and Photos issue is gone as well. I tried using different RAM with Gigabyte motherboard and different BIOS settings but nothing worked. I even used a beta BIOS but no luck.

Thanks. Eric it looks like we have the exact same hardware. Are you having this issue in Sierra? Are you using native power management?

Z97MX Gaming 5 user here as well, also experiences hard crashes under Sierra. Had to login to guest and create a new account to stop the crashes.

Is there likely to be any fix? I'd really hate to have to get a different mobo as it's worked well so far.
