Making the UniBeast USB Thumb Drive

Use the tonymacx86 guide UniBeast: Install macOS Sierra on Any Supported Intel-based PC. Note: your USB Thumb drive needs to have 7.63 GB of free space to build the UniBeast installation thumb drive. Otherwise, you'll need a 16GB USB thumb drive which is a better size so you can copy the following items to the thumb drive for use in the post installation phase:
:ch: MultiBeast v9 for Sierra which you can probably put on a 8GB USB thumb drive, but a 16GB drive is best
:ch: EFI Mounter V3
:ch: KextBeast which you'll use to install the Codec Commander kext
:ch: For proper processor power management, get the SSDT for your processor from ammulder's Guide and rename it SSDT.aml; I chose the SSDT for my i7-6700K. Note: ammulder's SSDTs are for non overclocking speeds; for overclocking, you'll need to create a SSDT for your processor using PikeRalpha's ssdtPRGen.sh script located here.
:ch: Rehabman's Codec Commander kext for making the audio (after wakeup from sleep) work which we'll install using KextBeast
:ch: Clover Configurator for fine tuning
:ch: (Optional) the nVidia Web drivers for the Maxwell chipset cards (750, 750 Ti, 950 Ti, etc). See tonymacx86's sticky thread in the Graphics forum section or MacVidCards driver list.

13. At Bootloader Options screen choose UEFI Boot Mode or Legacy Boot Mode. UEFI Boot Mode is recommended for 7/8/9/100 Series CustoMac desktops and all UEFI capable systems. Legacy Boot Mode is recommended for 5/6 Series CustoMac desktops and all BIOS based systems.

Having the same setup as yours, should I select UEFI boot mode or Legacy boot more?

Thanks

Since your Profile "Mobo" doesn't show what version of the Hero you have, it will be a guess on my part. (Matter of fact, your Profile System information shows you have a laptop.) So, please update your Profile System information and consider add a signature block as per the Forum's Rules.

From you post here, my guess is that your have a 100-series motherboard since you are using HD530. Therefore, you have a UEFI based BIOS and your should choose the UEFI Boot Mode.

BTW, this thread is based upon the ASUS MAXIMUS VII HERO which is a 100-series motherboard.

Did a reinstall and got through everything just fine, then upon first boot after MultiBeast and Nvidia web drivers were installed, I got the following panic that was the same panic I'd gotten after an upgrade with the `com.apple.iokit.IOAHCIBlockStorage`:

Any idea about this?

So it seems that the problem is the M2 Samsung SSD. I had to delete the kext and install on another drive... :( It seems that no matter what I try in this regard with the kext from rehabman I get the panic.

Hmmm. I've had good luck with his patch method as I demonstrated with my Gene build. So, you're probably missing a step or something in procedure. I recommend you review the procedure you used and look at my Gene procedure. I know it's not any consolation, but I'm glad I used a M.2 ACHI SSD blade in MyHero build rather than a M.2 NVMe SSD as I did in Gene - a lot less hassle. Best of luck with your endeavors.

Oddly I used the 951 as you recommended and so I didn't think I even needed it, but something is awry...

hi Stork, I've been trying to source for the Samsung SM951 512G AHCI version of the SSD for two days. Everywhere is out of stock. I read from your post that the NVME will cause quite some hassle.

Should I go with the readily available SATA ssd then?

Apple SSUBX SSDs also work natively in macOS if you can't find an SM951 AHCI. But an adaptor is required.

Performance is pretty much identical to SM951. Also, the SSUBX comes in a 1TB variant which the SM951 never did.

Thanks pastrychef. I am planning to use Asus ROG Maximus VIII Hero like Stork. Do I need this adapter? This adapter looks like typical M.2, can't I plug the SSUBX straight into the Maximus Hero?

Edit:
Oh, I get it now. We plug this adapter into the mobo M.2, then plug the SSUBX onto this adapter. Am I right?
