[Guide] El Capitan on the Skylake H170N-WIFI

I'm pretty sure the problem is not in the content of the plist, so if I give you a new one, I don't think it's going to help. And the one you posted seemed fine. Finally, you'll need to be able to go through this process on your own because the last couple OS X updates have overwritten the file so the procedure needs to be repeated.

I created the installer with latest version 10.11.3

dedligamer I had to throw my old NV 8500 GT in to get some graphics working. BTW the H170 Gaming 3 works well with El Cap and this guide.

Thanks for this tip, but I have no place for any graphic card in my case :) So I wait until GT530 iGPU driver released. =)

Please boot verbose (space bar from the Clover menu) and post a photo of the screen where it stops.

Also, please list your specific motherboard, CPU, and GPU model because the ones in your profile don't seem like the ones in question if you're posting to this thread. :)

Anyone else not getting correct RAM info?

I have 32gigs - 2x16g sticks, Clover only shows one 16 stick (or 2x8g sticks)

I filled out all info correctly in my config.plist

Code:
<key>Memory</key>
		<dict>
			<key>Channels</key>
			<integer>2</integer>
			<key>Modules</key>
			<array>
				<dict>
					<key>Frequency</key>
					<integer>2133</integer>
					<key>Size</key>
					<integer>16384</integer>
					<key>Slot</key>
					<integer>0</integer>
					<key>Type</key>
					<string>DDR4</string>
					<key>Vendor</key>
					<string>Corsair</string>
					<key>Part</key>
					<string>CMK32GX4M2B3000C15</string>
					<key>Serial</key>
					<string>154300812341234</string>
				</dict>
				<dict>
					<key>Frequency</key>
					<integer>2133</integer>
					<key>Size</key>
					<real>16384</real>
					<key>Slot</key>
					<integer>2</integer>
					<key>Type</key>
					<string>DDR4</string>
					<key>Vendor</key>
					<string>Corsair</string>
					<key>Part</key>
					<string>CMK32GX4M2B3000C15</string>
					<key>Serial</key>
					<string>154300812341235</string>
				</dict>
			</array>
			<key>SlotCount</key>
			<integer>4</integer>
		</dict>

everything seems to work fine, memtest does see all 32gigs and I have no issues, just curious to see if I can fix this and if it really is just cosmetic :)

Hi,

I've just tried this on my Gigabyte GA-Z170X Gaming 3 setup, with 16GB RAM and an Nvidia GTX 760.

The only issues I can see at present are that it's giving me the incorrect graphics card in the "About this Mac" window and only one of the three monitors is working. Also I can only boot into OS X if I boot from the USB stick.

I'm sure I've seen solutions to both of these issues, and I'll look tomorrow, because I need sleep now, but I just wanted to say thanks a million. This guide was, and you are amazing!

:D

I was hoping you guys could share some insight to get my rig booting more reliably (specs in my sig). Updated to 10.11.3 a few days ago and couldn't get the GFX 980 to work. Having tried "everything", I reinstalled afresh using onboard gfx, installed the latest release nvidia drivers and put in the GFX980. It sorta works now. Had to do the same when first installing 10.11.1

My issue is that booting into OS X is very unreliable. Sometimes it will go into kernel panic (CPU) during apple logo boot and sometimes I will get black screen/no signal syndrome 40% through the apple logo boot. The latter used to happen now and then on my 10.11.1 install as well, but now it seems to be 3-5 boots minimum every session before OS X loads properly. I should mention I upgraded the BIOS to F6 when I was trying to get the upgrade working.

Other minor issues I would like to understand or fix:
* New EFI entry is created by Clover on every boot. I'm deleting them in my Windows 10 (separate SSD) with Easy UEFI now and then
* Have the freezing, jumping mouse problem with my Logitech Performance MX mouse (unifying receiver). Pretty sure this is USB or graphics related. Receiver is 1.5 feet from the mouse with direct line of sight. Moving it to other USBs does not help.

Any help and/or wisdom is much appreciated! :thumbup:

I too could really use some help getting some issues ironed out. I followed this guide to the T and still have had plenty of trouble.

When I boot up, I have to turn the computer on and just let it go for a while. It will get part way through the loading screen and then restart over and over. Rarely I get lucky and it boots the first try while sometimes I come back 5 minutes later and it is still trying. Sounds like McEntosh is having the same issue.

Another issue is with the Ethernet. The port above the two old style USB ports doesn't work at all and the one above the USB-C port works for a while and then cuts out. System Preferences only shows one port, so one never working doesn't surprise me. Although, the sort of working one used to be much more reliable.
I installed the driver as outlined in the instructions as well as the Dell WiFi card drivers since I had planned on installing one before it got lost in the mail. I don't let the computer sleep, but that obviously isn't the problem since it dies while I'm using the machine (it has died since I started typing this). To get it back, sometimes I can get lucky with a permission repair and turning the Ethernet off and on in System Preferences, but generally it takes a very painful reboot.

Note:
I had the issue of many many boot entries, but I took care of that with the help of links just above.
I also had a very hard time getting the web drivers to work for my 950. It took a permission repair to work at all and seems like it might still be affecting boot. Using nv_disable=1 usually makes it boot better. Also, I run the two kextcache commands every now and then just for fun and the first always complains of an invalid signature. Is it supposed to stop complaining, or is it normal to always do so?
I have a second SSD with Linux Mint on it. I installed OS X on my main SSD without the Linux SSD installed, then I removed the OS X SSD and installed Linux on the second SSD. Boot issues predate the Linux SSD or install and persist whether that SSD is installed or not.

(And now my Ethernet is back without me having done anything.)

The AppleIGB driver is the one that crashes a lot. It's caused the crash in your left screen shot. It is the driver for one of the Ethernet ports. It sometimes crashes during startup, preventing the system from starting, and sometimes crashes during use. I'm assuming that's responsible for many of the problems you're reporting. I stopped using it because it was too unreliable (you can just remove the kext from your CLOVER/kexts/... directory or from /Library/Extensions, wherever you installed it).

To use the other Ethernet port, which doesn't have the same problems, you should download either the latest AppleIntelE1000e or IntelMausiEthernet driver from the downloads section and install that (the version installed by MultiBeast 8.0.1 doesn't work, but the next release of MultiBeast will install a version that works for Skylake boards). That should activate the other port.

Most non-Apple drivers (FakeSMC, Ethernet/Audio, USB, etc.) are not digitally signed, which is why you get the invalid signature messages when you run kextcache. They will never go away. Depending on how you install things you can reduce the number of complaints (possibly down to only one), but not completely eliminate them if you want all your hardware to work.
