security update 2015-004 nvidia

I installed this security update without thinking. :banghead:
It has broken the boot on the main drive - I get the black screen after the boatload allows me to choose which system to boot from.

nv_disable=1 doesn't help.
The usual boot flags I use don't help either.

I can boot into another spare (unfortunately no up to date) Yosemite, but the nvidia drivers won't let me
pick where to put the new drivers so I can't figure out how to update the drive that is bad.
Is there a way to do this in Pacifist? I couldn't tell.

I also tried changing the build number on the boot drive that is down, but no luck.

Does anyone have a suggestion on how to either update the nvidia drivers from another drive or some other boot flag?
Or any ideas at all?

I'm really at a loss, and would really like to avoid rebuilding my whole Yosemite system.

Thanks!

You are in the same trouble most of us are....i did this f......g update too and i'm not able to boot in OSX, even changing bootflags etc. System (in my case, i own an x99 build) reboots after PCIConfiguration begin routine..there's no way to boot and install new nvidia web drivers. if you try to install them before the update, they will say that OSX version is not correct, so it's impossible to update nvidia drivers before apply the security update!

I always download the NVIDIA driver (as my video is wanky without it), then install the update, reboot, use boot option nv_disable=1, install the driver, reboot. In this case I also had to re-install all of the drivers for my setup using MultiBeast.

Great, thanks! Will give it a try.

I was able to get into my system by using the Clover install usb that I made a few weeks ago.

Boot flags worked and I got into the system. So I'm thinking that the boot loader is messed up from the security patch as well????

I tried to then load the drivers, and it said that it wouldn't work with this build (14F1021) even though this is correct (I think!).

So I used Pacifist to force it to install (I think - I don't know this program well) which got me farther along. But it still kernel panics.

With -v get this:

Mac Os version:
Not yet set.

Not sure what that means - Anyone have any suggestions on how to fix that? or what it means?

Here is how I would recommend installing these updates.

1. Go to your Nvidia control panel and change the default video driver to OS X, reboot.
2. Install the security update.
3. Reboot (to make sure everything installs ok)
4. Download the latest Nvidia web driver (which works with this security update)
5. After installing open the Nvidia control panel and switch back to the Nvidia driver and reboot.

For me it all went well, had no issues. If you can't boot I would try to boot into safe mode (-x) and then remove the Nvidia drivers and try to start from scratch.

For me it worked flawless: installed the update, reboot, update nvidia driver, reboot.

Lol - yeah I don't know what I was thinking. Must have been thinking I had my Mac pro from years ago.
Honestly I usually skip these updates!

Anyway - can you tell me 2 things?

Where is the "Nvidia control panel" located? I have a basic GeForce GT 640 card, btw.
What folder is the Nvidia web driver located in? I'm not finding it on a search.

Thx - sorry about the basic questions. Any help is very appreciated.
