[Guide] 10.11 on Intel Broadwell NUC 2.0

Ammulder, amazing work, things are working great, the only thing I'm running into is graphic glitching when connected to a 4K display, even if I change the display to be 1920x1080 it still glitches out, but moving it down to 1600x900 fixes the problem

Do you have a NUC5i7? That's the only one where I've seen this problem (though for me, 1920x1080 worked, it was only anything higher than that but lower than 4k where it freaked out).

Awesome - this I have to try.
Any word on which BIOS version to use?

I think all my tests were on the current versions of the BIOS, which IIRC were:
  • NUC5i7RYH: 35
  • NUC5i5RYK: 35
  • NUC5i3MYHE: 30

Tried following your guide and got stuck on step 15.

"select Boot OS X Install from Install OS X El Capitan GM Candidate"

The screen booted into OSX Installation option menu where I can choose Disk Utility or Re-Install OSX. Nothing else. I restarted manually and again chose "select Boot OS X Install from Install OS X El Capitan GM Candidate"

This time I saw the Apple logo for one second then everything stops on a white "Do not enter" like circle instead of the Apple Logo.

I did get some funny behavior like that every now and then. I'd shut down (not just restart), wait a minute, start it up again, and see what you get. If this is a blank drive / new installation, hopefully on the next try you'll get "Install OS X" instead of "Reinstall OS X".

Strange. I turned off NUC, unplugged the drive and plugged it back to my Macbook to make sure that I don't have any missing files from previous steps. They were all there. Plugged the USB back in and turned on NUC. This time, Clover screen was different and I was able to eventually see OSX installation continue.

However, when I got to setting up my country and keyboard, NUC rebooted to Clover screen again and then automatically booted to OSX drive and I got to the "Do Not Enter" logo again and nothing happens.

Edit 1: Did a manual reboot. I can't see to go beyond setting up country and keyboard. OSX reboots after I choose DHCP local network for my network settings.

Edit 2: I chose my computer does not connect to network and was able to finish the installation.

If you get the do not enter, it's always worth trying again, with a full shutdown if needed. I'm not sure why, but sometimes it helps. :)

What model of NUC are you using, what monitor, and how is it attached?

The only time I saw spontaneous reboots on the NUC was on a 5i7 on a 4K screen via mini-HDMI-to-HDMI when I set the resolution to a retina mode higher than 1920x1080.

On another machine I saw reboots when it first hit the GUI when I had the completely generic config.plist installed by Clover instead of one that's at least minimally customized, so you can double-check that you have a good config.plist (there's one in the first post that you can use, or you could try the basic one in the Clover install thread).

I have NUC5i3RYK that I use as an HTPC and it is connected to a Projector via mini-HDMI-to-HDMI.

I was able to complete the installation. However, I have no network. When I click the "+" in Network, I get " Preferences Error" There was an error in Network Preferences.

Edit: Nevermind, I must have disabled Lan in Bios when I was following the guide. Enabeld i and works now. Will now play with the system.

Thank you very much for such a detailed guide.

What Works and Doesn’t

  • Audio via headphone jack or HDMI
A headphone experiment:
1. install native AppleHDA,kext
2. run cloverALC-110
3. delete property: config.plist/KernelAndKextPatches/KextsToPatch/Item ?/Comment: t1-10.11-AppleHDA/Realtek ALC...
4. restart
Reply with IOJones.

HDMI is a different problem.
