Hi all,

I've just search the forums for 'Q77' and was surprised to see only 3 posts, none of which indicate success or failure of a build based on this chipset.

Does anyone have any first-hand knowledge, one way or the other, of hack-ability of motherboards using this chipset?

Failing that, do any of you have reason to believe that it will not work?

Apparently, there are a good number of successful builds on the Q67 chipset. Perhaps the Q77 chipset is just too new?

1. It's new
2. It's for corporate computers in general

Besides that, there's no real reason as to why it shouldn't work as long as the motherboard/system supports the basic pre-requisites.

Thank you, thelostswede. Yeah, I'm only considering this mobo because the one I'm looking at looks like it will be compatible (Realtek for Audio + Ethernet) plus has a DisplayPort for the onboard graphics. I'm not after the v-Pro crap that comes with this mobo, and would even be looking for a way to disable it in BIOS, if possible.

Thanks again.

Plenty of other boards with DisplayPort, ...

Sadly, not where I am. Some of the computer stores I've been to didn't even believe me when I said "mini-DisplayPort" to them. They thought I was an idiot who meant "mini-HDMI". Fortunately, I didn't have to go far to find another one with more knowledgable people running the place. They even cruise these boards. [ ??????, e-Center! :D ]

Anyway, I've found a DisplayPort (m) -> mini-DisplayPort (f) adapter for my Apple Cinema Display, so, I should be good to go with a DisplayPort wielding motherboard and a i7-3770(K)... at least once ML hits the App Store, which is only days away. Worst case, I'll need to get a GPU.

Most of the µ-ATX boards that have a DisplayPort, are top-of-the-line Z77 mobos. Which is fine, except, I think that would be overkill for my build. I don't anticipate OC'ing and I won't require so many PCI channels, etc., so, I'm looking to spend less on a more appropriately spec'ed board. I would probably prefer an H77 board, but I can't find one with a DP. The ASRock Q77M-VPRO was suggested and, apparently, is available in my country, hence the question. Apparently, there are zero Gigabyte µ-ATX boards with DisplayPorts in the country. =(

I searched and found this thread. I understand OSX works on the new GIGABYTE boards with Z77 chipset without needing a custom DSDT and I'm considering a new build based on the GIGABYTE GA-Q77M-D2H and would like to know if the same applies to the Q77 chipset.

I am planning to buy GA-Q77M-D2 motherboard. I need the vpro stuff with this board. The only thing which makes me hesitating is that, this board doesn't have the gigabye 3d uefi bios which makes the system flawlessly working with mountain lion without any dsdt. This board has ami efi bios, which is according to some expert like "Thelostswede" makes no difference regarding dsdft free flawless working.
I wrote to gigabyte, asking for a 3d uefi beta bios for this board. They answered why do I need that? So I answered: because I want to run Macosx mountain lion with that:) and I also congratulated them for their hard work to make their motherboards fully compatible with macosx os :) They didn't answer me...yet. Maybe they don't know what to write:) I hope at least they will provide me 3d uefi bios for GA-Q77M-D2, but maybe they won't.

The best would be to read about a user experience about GA-Q77M-D2 and mountain lion. So if there is a user on this earth tried GA-Q77M-D2 with mountain lion please write here his or her experince about that.

Thanks
