Folks, I could use some help here...

Came in this morning and my machine would NOT wake up
- hit enter on the keyboard, nothing
- front panel reset button, will not wake up
- power switch off + on, gives me BIOS boot failure error screen (save+exit)
- now it will boot.

Yesterday, it was fine when I came in after it had been left over night, and it mostly was fine all day.
(well, not entirely, I did discover that it does NOT like when I try and use the HDMI for a second monitor.)

Previously I had had some screen freezing/corruption issues that I thought I had solved with a fresh and careful install.

If anyone can browse this and tell me if they see any errors, I would greatly appreciate it.

Here are my build details:

Gigabyte H97M-D3H, Core i5-4690, G.SKILL F312800CL10D16GBXL Ripjaws X 16GB 2X8GB Kits, Corsair CS450M CS Modular PSU, Samsung 850 EVO MZ*75E250B/AM 250GB 2.5in SATA III Internal SSD With AES 256 Encryption, generic ATX case, Western Digital WD5000AAKX - 500GB, 16MB CACHE SATA DRIVE

I have a revision 1.1 Motherboard, I have version F5 of the Bios. No need to upgrade.

========== ========= =========
BIOS SETTINGS:

  • turn on machine and hit F2 to get into the BIOS
    • Save+Exit -> Load Optimized Defaults
    • MIT -> Advanced Memory Settings -> XMP -> Profile1
    • MIT -> Advanced Frequency Settings -> Advanced CPU Core Settings -> Intel Turbo Boost Technology -> DISABLED

    • Peripherals -> XHCI Mode -> AUTO
    • Peripherals -> EHCI hand-off -> ENABLED
    • Peripherals -> Sata Configuration -> SATA Mode Selection -> AHCI (ALREADY SET)
  • Save + exit
  • Halt machine + disconnect 2nd HDD (had forgot to to do this earlier)
========== ========= =========
INSTALL:

  • Boot machine, hit F12 and tell it to boot from USB
  • Note: USB is in FRONT USB 2.0 port
  • start typing and enter “-v -x” as boot flags
  • OS-X install starts
  • use disk utility to reformat/repartition the SSD drive
  • After the install it reboots
  • select Yosemite (the internal disk where you installed OS-X) but DO NOT HIT RETURN — type “-v -x” to set boot flags and then hit return
MULTIBEAST:

  • settings:

    • Drivers -> Audio -> Realtek ALC892
    • Drivers -> Disk -> Trim Enabler -> 10.10.3 Trim Patch

  • Now Build
  • Select Save, Save to Documents, Also save to the USB drive, for insurance
  • Install
Then Shutdown - break time.
TESTING: - boot + login

  • system preferences -> Network -> verify it picked up DHCP
  • system preferences -> Mouse -> UNCHECK scroll direction: natural (stupid)
  • system preferences -> Sound -> Set to use “internal speakers” (weird, but it works)
  • system preferences -> Energy Saver -> UNCHECK Wake for Ethernet network access

That was the end of the day Tuesday (3 days ago). The next day I came in and the machine woke up and it presented a login screen. 20 minutes later it woke up from another sleep. Everything looked good.

Later I tried plugging in an HDMI cable to add a 2nd monitor and the machine froze. Okay, powered down, tried again, no dice. I tried with JUST the HDMI cable+monitor and it would also not boot. Fine, I gave up, and turned off and re-saved the BIOS (it kept popping up a "your machine would not boot please check your bios" error screen, and spent the rest of the day with just the DVI monitor and it was fine. It went to sleep several times during the day and each time woke up just fine.

Now today (Thursday) as mentioned above, the machine would not wake up at all from sleep after being left overnight.

This is very frustrating. I feel like I'm so close to having a great Hackintosh. I bought one of the recommended motherboards on the Buyer's Guide page. I thought that those were tested machines?

Progress ???? Well, not so sure about that.

This morning, the system will not start at all. at all.

Multiple resets, plugging the power cord in and out, and so on, have no effect.

When I push the power button the CPU fan and the Case fan turn on, run for about 1/2 second, and then turn off.... then they turn back on, and off, and on, and off... and they just keep doing that.
The screen stays totally black. No display at all.

I swapped PSU's, and it acts exactly the same.
I pulled the RAM, and it acts exactly the same.

Previously when I had been able to get it to boot, the CPU temperature never exceeded 50 degrees celsius.

A bit of googling confirms to me that my motherboard is bad. I am in the process now of getting an RMA approval from NCIX... I guess it is now the waiting game.
