Will either of these cards run natively with the simple command line switch graphicsenable? It seems that some need to run a few kexts while some need nothing but graphicsenable. what's the factor?

I'm trying to build a setup that will use as few kexts as possible

do most optical drives work OOB for burning etc? are they detected as superdrives or other?

would it benefit me if i purchased an OEM pioneer superdrive?

The Sony you listed will work fine OOB.
