After a few weeks of trial and error I finally found how to get this thing working perfectly. I was getting Kernel Panics on boot using settings that other people had posted but ended up going through one by one and finding what I needed and finally got everything working 100%.(Note: For me this where I ran into trouble my screen would freeze on the White Apple Logo Screen, using these boot commands worked for me -v -x cpus=1 GraphicsEnabler=No npci=0x3000 PCIRootUID=0. You will also have to use these commands after installing until running MultiBeast.) The 6 cores and hyper threading really make a big difference when it comes to rendering a project in Adobe After Effects CS6. I am currently over clocked at a stable 4.8Ghz. Also SSD is the way to go especially a Raid0 setup with these Vertex 4's I have never worked on a computer this fast before!!! I can shut down and reboot everything in under 30 seconds! My temperatures never exceed over 40 degrees celsius thanks to my H100i. The only real issue have is my stock fans that came with H100i are a bit loud for my taste nothing extreme I would just prefer complete silence. Which brings me to my personal issue with this case, its a mid tower so space is limited. I've become addicted with upgrading my Hack Pro I want perfection. My next major upgrade will be removing my extra fans and setting up a custom liquid loop for my build. I can accomplish this with my current space but I prefer more room. So I'll probably upgrade my case to a full tower case, I love the stylish look of the NZXT Phantom 410, so I'll most likely get the NZXT Phantom 820 Full Tower. (Note: For this specific Motherboard the latest version of MultiBeast 5.2.1 will not work alone in order to enable sound I needed to also download MultiBeast 4.6.1.)

Steps:

1. Set up Unibeast Drive with Mountain Lion 10.8.3 installed (Instructions: http://tonymacx86.blogspot.com/2011/10/unibeast-install-mac-os-x-lion-using.html)

2. Boot Unibeast Drive in Motherboard Bios, once on the Chimera boot screen input boot flags -v -x cpus=1 GraphicsEnabler=No npci=0x3000 PCIRootUID=0 then Install Mountain Lion (you will need to input the flags until after you install multibeast. This prevents you from geting stuck on Apple Logo Screen.)

3. After Successfully installing Mountain Lion you will need 2 versions of Multibeast (5.2.1 & 4.6.1) the latest version does not have the necessary drivers to enable audio on this motherboard but 4.6.1 does.

4. Install driver from Multibeast 5.2.1

MultiBeast 5.2.1Configuration for Mountain Lion 10.8.3
52567-screen-shot-2013-04-07-2-25-12-pm.jpg

5. Open the "EXTRA" folder and then open the file "Org.chameleon.Boot.plist" in TextEdit, add the sting and command as follows:

Code:

<key>SMcputype</key>
<string>1281</string>
(NOTE: Also where it says npci=0x2000 -v OR npci=0x3000 -v MAKE SURE TO DELETE THE -v so you will not have to boot in verbose mode.)

Add this string and command also to the file called "smbios.plist" in the "Extra" folder. It should look similar to this

53044-screen-shot-2013-04-12-2-45-44-am.png

6. Now Reboot and install audio drivers from Multibeast 4.6.1 (NOTE: You should now only have to boot with flag cpus=1)

MultiBeast 4.6.1Configuration for Mountain Lion 10.8.3

7. N
ow it's time to get rid of the pesky "cpus=1" command at bootup and speed up your machine!!! Which is very easy to do. You will need 2 things use KextBeast to install "VoodooTSCSync.kext" Once done, you can reboot... without ANY commands.

8. To enable iMessage: This has been pretty well documented. Troubleshooting iMessage Login Issues. Also Bob Roche explains it better than I could. In a nut shell, install the latest Chimera. At the time of this post, that was version 2.0.1.

9. To enable sleep download SleepEnabler from here
uncompress and move kext to the desktop. Then run the following command in Terminal:
Code:
cp -r /Volumes/OSX/ati_backup/ATI7000Controller.kext ~/Desktop/

install using KextBeast as shown below. You do not need to do "rollback" or anything else, as installing this Kext is equivalent to a rollback (Note. You may experience issues with USB3 devices plugged in. For now just make sure you eject USB3 storage before sleep.)

After following these steps myself everything works 100% perfectly. The only thing that will not work is SpeedStep which is not yet supported.

{GREAT SUCCESS} - Mikhail's Video Editing Hack Pro - 3930k/ GTX670/ SabertoothX79/ H100i/ 2x Vertex4 SSD/ 16GB Ram

Steps Continued:

This process is only for those wanting a RAID setup. I followed this great youtube video that demonstrates the whole process. Note that the 2 drives you want to use for the RAID will be formatted so all the data will be lost. Your OS must be installed on a 3rd drive so that it can be cloned to the new RAID setup.

Thanks to CPUKid00 for the great video

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7IzvhBbEXoY

You'll need the following to set up RAID 0:• Existing OS X Installation
• Chimera standalone installer
• CharlesSoft Pacifist
• Carbon Copy Cloner
• UniBeast flash drive
• Drives going into the Raid

1) Once again, open up Disk Utility on your newly working Hackintosh

2) Select a drive then select the RAID tab. Select both drives to use for the RAID by command + clicking on them and drag them in to the space in the RAID section

3) Name the drive what you like, select Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and change the RAID type to "Striped" - this will make it a RAID configuration. Go ahead and chose a RAID stripe size. This size determines how big the chunks of data stored on a single drive are. Use a large number to stor larger files like videos. Smaller for smaller day to day type setups (office work, work docs etc)

4) Click "Create" and wait for the RAID to be created.

5) In Disk Utility, Select the new RAID drive and hit Command + i. This will bring up the information on the drive. Find the "RAID Identifier" number and copy the number to a TextEdit document

6) Run Carbon Copy Cloner and select the source as your current boot drive and the destination as the new RAID setup. Let that run. You can do the following steps as this copies over

7) Open the drive you are currently booted in to and copy the "Extra" folder to your desktop

8) From the desktop open the org.chameleon.boot.plist file in TextEdit. Undernearth "Kernal Flags" between the <string> codes, delete what is there and put in the following:

Code:
rd=uuid boot-uuid=[paste RAID identifier] npci=0x-2000

9) Save this file and close it. Open up Pacafist and select "Open Package" and select the Chimera installer.

10) Navigate to "User" then "Directory" then "i386". Copy the files EXCEPT FOR boot0md to your desktop.

11) Open up Teminal and tupe in ''sudo su", hit enter, type in your admin password and hit enter.

12) Type in "diskutil list" to show all the disks and partitions in the computer

13) Look for the drives that say "Apple Boot OS X". These 2 will be the drives to RAID

14) Type in "cd Desktop" to change the directory to the desktop.

15) Type in the following commands to the Terminal, hitting ender after each one.

NOTE: Your disk names may be different! Check in the list to see what your disk numbers are and adjust this code accordingly. The partition names may also be different so double check you have the right name!

Code:
fdisk -f boot0 -u -y /dev/rdisk0

Code:
fdisk -f boot0 -u -y /dev/rdisk1

Code:
dd if=boot1h of
slant_osx.png
dev/rdisk0s3

Code:
dd if=boot1h of
slant_osx.png
dev/rdisk1s3

Code:
diskutil mount disk0s3

Code:
cp boot /Volumes/Boot\ OS\ X/

Code:
cp -R Extra /Volumes/Boot\ OS\ X/

Code:
diskutil unmount disk0s3

Code:
diskutil mount disk1s3

Code:
cp boot /Volumes/Boot\ OS\ X/

Code:
cp -R Extra /Volumes/Boot\ OS\ X/

Code:
diskutil unmount disk1s3

Code:
exit

16) Shut down the computer. At this stage I unplugged all drives except the ones used in my RAID and turned the computer back on.

NOTE: After turning my computer on, computer booted straight in to the RAID and I did not have to do anything else. The tutorial I followed outlines further steps that may be needed in your case. If this doesn't work, follow the rest of this from 11:00 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7IzvhBbEXoY.

17) Confirm that your RAID is working by booting to it and checking your volume storage. Run the "Black Magic Disk Speed Test" and enjoy the speed of your new RAID setup! Shut down your computer and reconnect the other drives.

Your computer should now automatically boot in to the Chimera Boot Loader and have your RAID setup as the default! If not, you may have to check your boot order in your BIOS or run the further steps in the video tutorial.

Steps Continued:

Stable overclock from 3.8Ghz to 4.8Ghz

I had no idea how to overclock my build properly, but thanks to marknotton I was able to get a stable 4.8Ghz I even pushed it to 5.0Ghz. These are the screenshots provided by Mark that I used to over clock my system Here is a gallery of my bios settings
Also, I'm using Temperature Monitor Lite to make sure my CPU temperature doesn't exceed any danger zones. I'm constantly running at around 35c to 40c which is perfectly fine. 60c-70c and above and you need to start worrying. (This is Celsius, not to be confused with Fahrenheit).

Enabling Cuda
I'm not going to provide detailed instruction to enable Cuda, but Bob Roche made a video showing how to do so, and he can better explain exactly what it is.

[video=youtube;97374JQm6QQ]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=97374JQm6QQ[/video]

THE END.
I hope you all find these instructions as helpful as I did and hopefully future Hackintosh Builders are inspired by my Build. Leave a comment if you need any assistance I'll be more then happy to help anyone out to the best of my knowledge. To see my build in action and see my benchmark scores check out my video on YouTube:

Congrats on your build! What are your temps under full load? Like when you are running a blend test under Prime95? I like the case you chose and overall well done on your build.

Thank you  my temps under a full load never go over 44c/111f. The H100i does its job really well, but like i mentioned the stock fans are a bit loud under a full load.

Dear Mikhail

Thank you very much for your detailed description. Your work is quite an inspiration.

My situation seems to be similar to many: I'm rather unhappy how Apple is treating the Mac Pro line.

So I went looking for an alternative – and found your impressive Video Editing Hack Pro. Wow. That seems to be quite a solution!
Now... as I never built a Hackintosh before, I'm a bit scared. Hearing you saying that you spent three weeks on this... well, I'm not sure if I can do this, too.

But after reading your post and watching your video again and again, it really seems to be possible. I'm very excited.

I would like to ask you a few question before I jump in. I hope you don't mind.

1) Is it ok for you if I'm going to copy your system and benefit from your (three week!) experience?
2) Does USB3 work?
3) What's the state of OpenCL with 10.8.3? (in your video, I saw a note that there is a problem with that.)
4) Do you think that changing the graphics card would generate additional problems? (I would love to get an GTX 660 with 3GB ram for 4K rendering in Davinci Resolve).
5) Can this system sleep?

I'm really happy I've found your post.

Thanks a lot and best regards.

Nice build!
I looking to build my first Hackintosh aswell and with this guide I think its possible for me.

I just want to add one question, does the onboard FireWire work?

I am glad my build inspired you. It was also inspired to me as well by MKBHD on YouTube. If you watch his Hackintosh Pro series it will rid any scepticism you may have about Hackintosh he does a side by side comparison with his Hackintosh and his Mac Pro. As to your question about USB 3.0 I have not attempted to use it but I do believe it does not yet work for Hackintosh builds although I may be wrong. My OpenCL is working perfectly as of now. Also using the GTX 660 will be no issue all GTX 600 series graphics cards are fully supported. I use adobe after Effects and it runs flawlessly. I hope this helped and answered your questions, feel free to ask me any other questions you might have. If you decide to go with this exact hardware ill be more then happy to help you every step of the way!!! The only reason it took me 3weeks was this was my very first build and this motherboard is one of the more difficult ones to get working on a Hackintosh.

Hey Mikhail, great to have you here.

I'm really optimistic by now.

Two more question if I may:
- do you know if the optical audio out via S/PDIF is working?
- can you put your workstation to sleep and wake it up later?

Cheers!

Yes all audio is working but for this build but you will need to install audio from multibeast 4.6.1 not the latest version as far as sleep and speedstep are concerned they are not yet functioning on this motherboard and to my knowledge do not yet work on any Hackintosh build although I may be wrong due to my limited experience. However I don't find it an issue with my build I usually keep it powered on never in sleep mode and as for speed step with the appropriate cooling it shouldn't be an issue I prefer my system to run at full power anyways
