Choice of Components & Motivation:
I recently discovered the world of Hackintosh, and wanted to put together a cheap build to play around with. I've been debating about building the Povomac for a while and just pulled the trigger. I haven't built a system since 2006, but back then I was hardcore into overclocking, watercooling and what not. Since then, I've just been buying laptops and tablets. This will primarily be used for watching media and web surfing from my couch. I choose the most economical compatible components.
Confirmed working:
- Ethernet
- USB2.0
- Analog audio out
- WiFi
- Sleep
Not tested by me (yet):
- Audio over HDMI. I'm using an older receiver right now that does not do HDMI.
Known issues:
- Video card is loud... Need a cheap passive cooler now
Installation:
Follow Tonymacx86's general guide. Used DSDT from ortizge (http://www.tonymacx86.com/dsdt/74556-ga-h61m-ds2-v2-2-f7-dsdt-0-errors-how.html). The only other package I needed were RT2870 drivers.
Bottom Line:
For my first build, I definitely chose easily compatible hardware that others had extensive experience using. I found a board with a pre-existing DSDT and had working ethernet and audio through Multibeast. Ralink has OSX drivers for RT2870, and with that, I have the cheap, couch surfing Hackintosh I wanted.
