I am owner of 3rd Mac Book Pro. I am web developer and also video enthusiast, and working with Final Cut Pro on my mac was just not enough fast for me. I decided to try hackintosh - I build my last computer like 10 years ago, oh well, a lot of things changed!

First I checked what is current hw, I choose strong CPU for good value, Gigabyte motherboards are quite good and choose this SLI model (actually no use for it, I just thought to have 2 ethernet is useless, I am not gaming, why pay more for D3/5/7H model...), I choose quite good CPU fan, CPU temp is max around 62 Celsius. This system is optimized for VIDEO editing (FCPX).

Graphics card took a quite long to choose. I knew R9 280X is very powerful in OPEN CL, and that's why I choose it, even on this site, is not so much AMD GFX users. 280x should work OOB, but...anyway, for choosing brand, I recommend GIGABYTE or ASUS, if you want quiet setup.

For installation, I never install any hackintosh before, so big thanks to you people. One of the reason, why I am writing this guide, is because I want to give something back to community.

Installation

  1. Flash your MoBo with the newest BIOS
  2. BIOS: Load Optimized settings, disable VT-D, IGFX, disable internal GFCX
  3. It is recommended to start with 1xRAM (8GB), but in my case not needed
  4. Prepare Unibeast USB, copy Yosemite Multibeast on it
  5. Boot settings for Unibeast "-x -v maxmem=16384 GraphicsEnabler=No"

Partition Setup
In OSX setup is important to partition your SSD/HDD, when you using R9 280x, otherwise you will get boot 0 with gibberish text. Make 2 partitions:

  1. FAT32, MBR, the smallest size you can set
  2. Mac OSX Extended (Journaled), GUID, rest of space

MultiBeast Configuration for Yosemite

I set in Multibeast EasyBeast, DSDT Free doesn't work for me (computer was restarting), in screenshot you can see what I select, I didn't get sensors working (CPU temp), if I install FakeSMC plugins (sensor), then I got random freezes.

TODO

  1. I am using 2560x1080 resolution, when I boot, the signal is distorted, so I need to sleep and wake up computer to get proper resolution (sleep fix/trick).
  2. Sensors for Voltage/Temperature

I am attaching also my benchmarks, if anybody interested (so you can compare it with Nvidia cards...)

Hi 2ge,

thanks for your information. I am planning to build my first hackintosh for fcpx/motion too. So, is your build running great so far? Any unexpected issue such as random freeze?

thanks :)

I am not working with hackintosh yet, but so far, no freezes, I will update in time.
I got there Yosemite 10.10.1, it is really fast
