we should have an idea on Asus firmware about differences from other firmwares. I think about tbpatch OSY's software to read firmware content :
  • copy tbpatch file (here) on desktop
  • Terminal commands:
    • cd Desktop && sudo ./tbpatch list
    • enter your password
  • I don't know if it work as we don't have any devices like IOThunderboltIECSNub, AppleHPMIECS and AppleHPMDevice devices ... but we can expect hopefully result

Good idea!

To dump current firmware, we could also use Linux. Then we can compare Asus Maple Ridge firmware against Gigabyte Maple Ridge firmware.

Ok, there is definitely good signs of this TB being recognised that was not there before... See the pictures attached. However, despite the Sabrent Enclosure appearing the drive doesn't load at all for some reason.

I also have a TB 3 CalDigit dock that should pop on but there is no sign of it when trying to hotplug it. It does appear under the device tree there when cold booting but is not working. Also, the ethernet no longer works now. I think these ports are somehow linked with the TB chip.

It would be interesting to see BIOS/Thunderbolt setting and see if you have same result without any thunderbolt devices attached on cold boot.

Also.. Do you have Hotplug working ?

Have you tried, moving add-on card from PCIx16 (PEG1) slot to PCIx4 (RP21?) bottom slot ?

I might have to wait on my ROM Chips to come in. I got lucky getting it to work last night. It looks like moving it to another PCI lane shook it.

It's still the same so far, unfortunately. It appears as info in PCI & Thunderbolt/USB4 tree but I cannot see the devices.

Please try this delicate experiment:
  • Connect and power on your Thunderbolt device(s).
  • Then boot macOS and quickly type your password on the login screen.
  • Quickly try to use your Thunderbolt device.
    • If it's an external disk, does the disk icon appear on desktop? If so, double-click to open. Does it open?
All of this needs to be done in under 20 seconds after login screen appears!
