Whats the difference - Chimera, Chameleon

I am a new idiot BUT I have a sweet new Hackintosh!

I have read as much as I can but it still escapes me what the difference is between Chimera and Chameleon?

I have Chimera 1.7 installed (says so when I get to the dual boot screen) so, I don't need Chameleon, correct?

My goal is to edit the dual boot screen of Chimera. I see on my boot drive:

Extra>Themes>Default>theme.plist

When I edit theme.plist.... my changes have no effect.
in Extra I see a file org.chameleon.Boot.plist - why is this file 'org.chameleon'? the boot screen says Chimera 1.7

chimera is a branch of chameleon.

chameleon is an open source project. chimera is macman's branch of chameleon
