It's apparent that many folks had to make updates and add "work-arounds" to their audio and ethernet. This tells me that there was a recent change from apple in regards to the hardware that Snow Leopard prefers, and "plays the nicest" with.

If I were to buy a brand new mobo today (which I am), then what are the new hardware standards that I should look out for? As I'd prefer not to purchase legacy hardware if I can avoid it.

Thanks for the help!

What I can say is that almost everyone must install some extra "drivers", kext, to get hardware working. Audio, network, USB3, graphics, old PS/2 keyboard. Recommended motherboards are from Gigabyte.

For my Gigabyte GA-H57M-USB3 I must install for audio, network, usb3.
