Upgrading from 10.9

Sorry for the newbie question.
I have OS X 10.9 installed on a gigabyte B85M-D3H motherboard. I think I used Unibeast.
I now need to upgrade to el capitain or Sierra. What's the best way? Can I just upgrade from the app store?
